Introduction

The Christmas market in Stralsund, a UNESCO World Heritage town, offers an enchanting Advent atmosphere and a sense of Hanseatic tradition.

The Stralsund Christmas Market extends from the festively decorated Alter Markt square, with its Gothic town hall, past the historical town houses and shops to the Neuer Markt square. A craft market can also be found in St. James’ Church.

The hanseatic city of Stralsund is located to the north of Berlin in the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania state of Germany. The city is  situated directly on the Baltic Sea, close by to the beautiful island of Rügen, which is also well worth a visit.

Every year Father Christmas, with his wife, comes to Stralsund harbour to open the Christmas market and to hand out gifts to children.

The festively decorated Alter Markt with the historical City Hall and St Nicholas' Church provide a splendid backdrop, where the Rathauskeller - one of Germany's largest cellars - forms an attractive centre for a Christmas market with arts and crafts, culinary delights and entertainment.

On the way from the Alter Markt to the fun and thrills of the fairground at Neuer Markt, you can try some Stralsund Marzipan or take a mulled wine at one of many stalls on the way.
