This 9 night itinerary combines two of Ecuador’s areas of outstanding natural flora and fauna. The itinerary begins with two nights in Quito, Ecuador’s busy capital, and a contrast of old and new world. It is surrounded by looming volcanoes and the tranquil peaks of the Andes, and has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
As you acclimate to the city’s elevation of 9,350 feet, you can enjoy this mecca for lovers of culture, adventure and culinary delights, as you stretch your legs during a three hour walking tour.
This itinerary features an incredible experience in Ecuador’s famed cloud forest. You will depart Quito by road as you skirt the foothills of the Andes and cross the equator on the road the Choco Reserve where you will spend 2 nights at Mashpi Lodge. The lodge works in tandem with key conservation efforts in this region of the rainforest which is home to 400 species of birds, trees, and frogs found nowhere else in the world, complete with crashing waterfalls and incredible flora. Enjoy hiking, zip-lining on their unique “air-bike” and a visit to the Life Center, including their butterfly enclosure. Optional evening discussions with the naturalist guides offer more details.
After a final morning hike, travel back to Quito and a quick overnight at the Wyndham Quito airport, before flying on to Baltra Airport in the Galapagos. After boarding your home for the next 4 nights, the M/C Endemic, your base for exploring the islands over the next five days. Highlights include the land and marine iguana, flamingos, blue-footed boobies, sea lions and the giant tortoises as you enjoy hiking, swimming and snorkeling.
