The Ultimate Namibia Highlights Route
21 Nights | Namibia from North to South – Wildlife, Ancient Landscapes, Atlantic Adventures & Desert Silence
What if one journey could show you just how many different worlds exist within Namibia?
Begin beneath Windhoek’s warm evening skies. Follow leopards through the bush at Okonjima, wake on the edge of Etosha, discover the rugged wilderness of Damaraland and stand before rock paintings created thousands of years ago. Trade the dust of the desert for the cool Atlantic air in Swakopmund, climb the great dunes of Sossusvlei and then leave the famous landmarks behind for the extraordinary silence of the NamibRand.
This journey brings together many of Namibia’s greatest highlights – but it is not simply about ticking places off a list.
With two nights at most destinations, there is time to experience rather than simply arrive. Wildlife encounters, ancient cultures, desert adventures, conservation stories and some of Namibia’s most beautiful lodges come together in one remarkable journey from north to south.
This is Namibia in all its contrasts – wild, immense, surprising and impossible to forget.
Day 1 – Welcome to Namibia
The Windhoek Luxury Suites – 1 Night
Your Namibian adventure begins at Hosea Kutako International Airport, where you collect your rental car and make your way into Windhoek.
Settle into The Windhoek Luxury Suites, a stylish and convenient place to recover from your international journey. With restaurants just across the road, there is no need for complicated plans tonight.
Leave the car parked, enjoy your first dinner beneath the Namibian sky and raise a glass to the adventure ahead.

Your home for the next two nights is Okonjima Luxury Bush Camp, an intimate retreat surrounded by the reserve’s beautiful bushveld.
Okonjima is also home to the AfriCat Foundation, and your stay offers an opportunity to look beyond a traditional safari. Here, long-term research into species including leopards, brown hyenas and pangolins helps build a deeper understanding of Namibia’s wildlife and the ecosystems it depends upon.
Head into the reserve with your guide, follow tracks through the bush and discover how technology, fieldwork and years of data are helping researchers understand these elusive animals.

Just eight kilometres from the Von Lindequist Gate, Mushara Outpost combines the atmosphere of an elegant tented safari camp with an excellent location for exploring eastern Etosha.
Spend your days following Etosha’s dusty roads from one waterhole to another. Elephants emerge from the shimmering horizon, giraffes move elegantly across the plains and zebra, springbok and antelope gather around precious water sources.

Ongava combines access to Etosha with the exclusivity of a private reserve, allowing you to experience the wildlife of northern Namibia from a new perspective. Spend time exploring the reserve with expert guides and discover the important conservation work that has made Ongava particularly renowned for its rhino population.
Two nights allow you to enjoy both worlds: the vast plains of Etosha and the intimacy of a private reserve.

The safari landscapes gradually give way to something wilder and more elemental as you travel into Damaraland.
Welcome to Etendeka Mountain Camp, surrounded by the rugged beauty of the Etendeka concession.
Here, luxury is measured differently.
It is a bucket shower beneath an enormous sky. A guided walk through ancient volcanic landscapes. A cold drink after a day outside. A campfire glowing as darkness settles over the mountains.

More than 200 rock art sites have been recorded in the surrounding area, preserving traces of people who lived amongst these mountains thousands of years ago.

Your base is Villa Margherita, an intimate boutique accommodation in Swakopmund – ideal for exploring the town and its surroundings.
But here, the real highlight is Swakopmund itself.
German colonial architecture, cafés and restaurants meet palm-lined streets and cool Atlantic air, while just beyond town some of Namibia’s greatest adventures await.

Day 14 – The Great Dunes of Sossusvlei
Sossusvlei Lodge – 1 Night
Leave the Atlantic behind and travel deep into the Namib towards one of Namibia’s most iconic landscapes.
Sossusvlei Lodge provides a convenient base close to the entrance to the famous dune landscapes – because this stop is all about getting out and experiencing Sossusvlei.
Explore the Namib-Naukluft area and experience the extraordinary landscapes surrounding Sossusvlei.
Climb a towering dune, walk across the white clay pan of Deadvlei and stand amongst its ancient dark camel-thorn trees. Surrounded by some of the highest dunes on Earth, it is easy to understand why this landscape has become one of the defining images of Namibia.
Activities & Highlights
- Excursion to Sossusvlei
- Explore Deadvlei
- Climb Big Daddy or another accessible dune
- Photograph the changing colours of the Namib
- Visit Sesriem Canyon
- Experience some of Namibia’s most iconic desert scenery
Day 15 – Optional Sunrise Above the Namib
Before continuing towards Wolwedans, there is an opportunity to experience the desert from an entirely different perspective.
Optional Namib Sky Balloon Safari
Rise before sunrise and take to the skies with Namib Sky Balloon Safaris. Float silently above the ancient Namib Desert as the first light spreads across the dunes, mountains and open plains below.
After landing, the experience continues with a celebratory breakfast in the desert before you continue your journey towards the NamibRand Nature Reserve.
It is an extraordinary transition between two very different desert experiences: first seeing the Namib from above, and then immersing yourself in its silence at Wolwedans.
Days 15–16 – Beyond Sossusvlei: Into the NamibRand
Wolwedans Desert Lodge – 2 Nights
You have seen the famous dunes. Now it is time to experience the desert differently.
Continue south towards the NamibRand Nature Reserve and Wolwedans Desert Lodge, where the landscape opens into an extraordinary combination of red dunes, golden grasslands, distant mountains and endless sky.
It is important to understand that Wolwedans is not a base for visiting Sossusvlei. Although both destinations lie within the greater Namib region, the distances and travel times make travelling from Wolwedans to Sossusvlei for a day excursion impractical. Trying to combine the two into one stay means spending precious hours on the road instead of experiencing either destination properly.
That is exactly why this itinerary gives them separate stays.
Sossusvlei is about witnessing one of Namibia's great landmarks. Wolwedans is about immersing yourself in the desert itself.
Slow down. Explore the NamibRand with your guide. Stop for a picnic surrounded by wilderness. Watch the mountains turn purple as the sun disappears.
Activities & Highlights
- Guided scenic nature drives through NamibRand
- Desert walks
- Sundowner experiences
- Wilderness picnics
- Exceptional photography
- Stargazing beneath extraordinarily dark desert skies
- Time to simply enjoy the silence and landscapes
Days 17–18 – A Private World in Southern Namibia
Nooishof – 2 Nights
Your journey continues into the vast landscapes of the Sinclair Nature Reserve, where Nooishof offers something increasingly rare: genuine tranquillity.
With only a handful of suites surrounded by approximately 25,000 hectares of nature, the experience is intimate, personal and wonderfully unhurried.
After the grandeur of the Namib, Nooishof feels almost like being welcomed into a private Namibian home.
There is no pressure to race from one activity to another. Explore the reserve, enjoy the landscape, share stories around the table and rediscover the pleasure of simply having time.
Activities & Highlights
- Explore the Sinclair Nature Reserve
- Guided nature experiences
- Wildlife viewing
- Walking and time outdoors
- Birding
- Sundowners
- Personal hosting and intimate atmosphere
- Exceptional peace and privacy
Day 19 – One Last Night beneath the Red Dunes
Bagatelle Boutique Farmhouse – 1 Night
Continue north as the landscape changes once again and the characteristic red dunes of the Kalahari begin to rise from the horizon.
Spend one night at Bagatelle Boutique Farmhouse, adding one final contrasting landscape to your journey before returning towards Central Namibia.
The Kalahari feels entirely different from the Namib. Rolling red dunes, golden grasses, camel thorn trees and open skies create a warm, peaceful landscape that is particularly beautiful in the late afternoon.
With only one night, make the most of the atmosphere. Head out into the landscape, enjoy the sunset and spend your final evening in the Kalahari surrounded by the colours and sounds of the African wilderness.
Activities & Highlights
- Nature and wildlife experiences
- Sundowner drives
- Horse riding
- Walking and time outdoors
- Wildlife viewing
- Stargazing
- Enjoy the distinctive red Kalahari landscapes
Days 20–21 – End on a High Note
Gmundner Lodge – 2 Nights
Your great Namibian journey slowly begins to circle back towards Windhoek – but there is still one final experience waiting.
Spend your last two nights at Gmundner Lodge, a luxurious Relais & Châteaux retreat set within thousands of hectares of private nature.
After almost three weeks on the road, this is exactly where you want to be.
Unpack for the final time. Enjoy exceptional cuisine shaped by the lodge’s farm-to-table philosophy. Head into the reserve, explore on horseback, try something new or simply spend a long afternoon doing absolutely nothing.
Gmundner brings the journey to a beautifully gentle conclusion – close enough to Windhoek and the international airport to make departure convenient, yet surrounded by enough wilderness to ensure that your holiday does not feel over until the very last moment.

One Country. A Thousand Memories.
Twenty-one nights ago, Namibia was a place on a map.
Now it is the sound of elephants moving through the bush. The excitement of following leopard tracks. The glow of ancient granite mountains at sunset. Cold Atlantic air on your face. Footprints disappearing into the sand at Deadvlei.
It is a campfire in Damaraland.
A sunrise over the Namib.
The red dunes of the Kalahari.
A road disappearing towards a horizon that somehow never seems to get any closer.
And perhaps most of all, it is the space in between – the silence, the freedom and those unexpected moments that no itinerary could ever plan.
The Ultimate Namibia Highlights Route brings together the country’s iconic landscapes with places that encourage you to look closer, stay longer and experience more deeply.
Because the greatest journey through Namibia is not about how many places you visit.
It is about how many of them stay with you long after you have returned home.
