The Fish River Canyon, located in the south of Namibia, is the largest natural gorge in Africa, and the second-largest natural gorge in the world. Famous for its drought-resistant succulents, such as the distinctive Quiver Tree or Kokerboom, the Canyon is a spectacular natural phenomenon.
Groups can also depart from Windhoek or fly from JHB to Upington. Email our office for options.
The Fish River Canyon was created by water erosion and the collapse of the valley floor due to movements in the earth’s crust. Geographically, the Canyon drops vertically by half a kilometer. As with most rivers in Namibia, the Fish River is generally dry except during the rainy season from January to April.
The Fish River Canyon is a popular hiking destination and a great photographic opportunity. The most popular trail, aptly named Fish River Hiking Trail, is a four to five-day 85 km expedition open during the cooler months from May to September.
