You'll experience the best of Vietnamese cuisine in Hue, witness the beauty of Halong Bay on an overnight cruise and marvel at the industriousness of life in the Mekong Delta. You'll enjoy a dinner with a local family in Hanoi, see sights by vintage army jeep, enjoy an easy cycling excursion among rice paddies near Hoi An and discover the stunning landscapes of northern Vietnam.
On this trip you'll begin in Saigon. You have a full day in Saigon to discover local life and something of Saigon's role in the war, through a local's guide reminiscences and visiting some iconic city sights.
Spend a full day visiting the Mekong Delta, a remarkable agricultural area referred to as ‘the rice bowl of Vietnam’.
From Saigon, fly to Danang for 3 nights to explore the charming town of Hoi An. You have a walking tour of the old town of Hoi An included and a great day excursion by bike into the countryside around Hoi An. You'll have plenty of time to explore on your own, or enjoy some time on the beach.
From Ho An, transfer over the Hai Van Pass to the old imperial capital of Vietnam, Hue. This is a youthful city, famous for its cuisine. Enjoy an afternoon/evening tour by cyclo to experience some of the best street food in Vietnam. You'll learn about Vietnam's royal past and see sites such as the Imperial Citadel and Royal Tombs.
Fly to Hanoi where you'll get beneath the city's veneer with a local family dinner before exploring the city by vintage army jeep. Enjoy a walking tour to learn more about local customs and daily life.
South of Hanoi is home to bucolic scenery and historic destinations such as Ninh Binh and Hoa Lu. You'll spend a night here before heading to Halong Bay for an unforgettable overnight cruise.
Finish your Vietnam journey with a final night in Hanoi before flying back to New Zealand.
