Introduction

An in-depth journey into Ethiopia past and present, this trip includes both the north and the south regions, providing a breadth of experiences to savor.

Starting in the North, you will visit Lalibela to explore the ancient rock hewn churches for which this ancient city is famous,  as well as Gondar, known as the "Camelot of Africa" given it once served as the royal capital of the ancient Ethiopian Empire.  In addition, you will visit the town of Aksum, which figures at the center of many religious mysteries:  it is said to be the home of the Ark of the Covenant, former home of the Queen of Sheba and the burial site of one of the wise men.

After a stop at lovely Lake Langano, you will head down to the South to learn more about this remote region and its fascinating people.   You will witness various cultural traditions still practiced there, such as the exhilarating ‘Jumping of the Bulls’ ceremonies which form the culmination of a three-day long rite of passage for any young man within the Hamer tribe, as well as visiting some of the market towns and home to the Mursi people, who are well known for their elaborate lip plates made of clay.

Truly the trip of a lifetime for anyone interested in history, culture and mystery.
