High Valleys of Ladakh; A Snow Leopard Journey - Small Group March 2027

For this journey, we will be based at the Shan at Uley lodge, deep in the high Trans-Himalayan landscape of Ladakh, with the primary aim of searching for the elusive Snow Leopard. Uley sits within a vast, open valley system where steep rock faces, scree slopes and wide, arid basins create an ideal habitat for this remarkable cat. At this time of year, wildlife remains concentrated at lower elevations, and the landscape itself plays a central role in the experience — big skies, stark geology and a sense of scale that is both humbling and quietly absorbing.

Days are shaped by the rhythms of the mountains. From vantage points throughout the valleys, alongaside our dedicated spotters, we will scan ridgelines and cliffs for movement.  Herds of Ibex, Urial and Blue Sheep move across the slopes that sustain the region’s predators. The environment here is demanding yet beautifully clear, stripped back to essentials, and it rewards patience and attentiveness. Even when the Snow Leopard remains unseen, the process of tracking, observing and understanding this extraordinary habitat offers a deep and immersive wildlife experience, rooted in place and guided by those who know these mountains intimately.
