Introduction

Pilgrimage to heaven on earth has been a custom to Japanese in every social class since Heian period, and these pilgrimage routes are known as Kumano Kodo collectively nowadays. This pilgrimage route spread extensively in the Kii mountain range and connected about 3000 shrines and temples, including Shinto and Buddist faiths. This itinerary features the highlights of Kumano Kodo, and we will end the trip in Shima.
