Perched on the edge of a river valley, the architecture of Sasaab blends Swahili and Moroccan design principals in which the African heat is of primary consideration. Each of the nine canvas-sided rooms is over 100m² with private plunge pools and breath-taking views across the Laikipia Plateau toward the jagged peaks of Mount Kenya. Its position above the river naturally facilitates watching the herds of elephant that come to bathe below as well as a host of other wildlife.

Sasaab offers the ultimate destination for an African wildlife safari adventure. There is so much to see and do to suit every type of safari-goer, from photography enthusiasts to those fascinated in local culture to people who love fast-paced fun and those simply seeking a tranquil escape to nature. Mealtimes and locations are flexible depending on your itinerary for the day, which can start as early or as late as you like. Wherever your interests lie, Sasaab’s team can’t wait to make your safari adventure in Samburu an unforgettable experience.

Sasaab is a playground for adventures in the wilderness

Encountering the diverse wildlife of this region is a delight for all ages. From the majestic elephant herds of Samburu to the brightly coloured agama lizards you can spot around the lodge. Don’t forget to look out for the ‘Samburu Special Five’ on game drives, five mammals unique to northern Kenya. Heading out for a safari adventure in the Samburu National Reserve with one of our professional guides, a spotter and the promise of a cook-out wilderness breakfast makes for a brilliant morning.

As well as game drives in our open sided 4 x 4 vehicles, there are plenty of other ways to appreciate the stunning landscape and wildlife at Sasaab. Nature walks, camel rides, quad biking excursions and helicopter experiences are all on offer. You can even pre-book to spend a night fly camping out in the bush under our mosquito dome tents and fall asleep gazing up at the stars. When you want a break from all the excitement, the calming serenity of SpaSaab awaits and you’ll find our cooling plunge pools and infinity pool irresistible.
