Clarens and the Midlands

The picturesque Eastern Free State town of Clarens is situated at the foot of Mount Horeb. It is surrounded by the beautiful Rooiberge, with the mighty Maluti’s off to the south-east. Spring is a good time of the year to visit. The tree-filled town offers a wonderful display of colourful blossoms in spring time, and surrounding mountains a green wonderland with the fresh light green willows, showcasing why the town is known as the ‘jewel’ of the Free State. In Clarens, you can spend hours exploring all the little town has to offer - the many art galleries, gift shops, and craft shops. Clarens is a haven for many well-known and established artists, and you’ll find various art galleries all over town. Another highlight will be a visit to the Golden Gate NP. Three nights are spent in Clarens, with overnight stops in the Midlands on the way there and on our return.
