Introduction

Day 1:
Upon your arrival into Lilongwe International Airport, you will be met by a dmAFRICA representative who will have a name board with your names. Your representative will assist you with immigration and customs clearing then check in for your flight to Mfuwe in South Luangwa. The flight takes on average one hour.

At Mfuwe International Airport, you’ll be met by a guide from Robin Pope Safaris, they will drive you to Nkwali Camp, the journey taking approximately 1 hour through colourful local scenes of villages, agriculture as well as bush. Nkwali Camp has a wide view of the Luangwa River. On Robin’s private land, and overlooking the South Luangwa National Park, Nkwali is ideally situated for the start of your safari.

The six rooms all look out over the river and have open air bathrooms. Depending on your arrival time in the day you will enjoy a lunch looking out over the lagoon to the back of Nkwali or if in the afternoon for tea and the afternoon and night game drive. Overnight, you shall be staying at Nkwali Camp on a full board basis.

Day 2 & 3:
At dawn, you’ll have your breakfast served around the campfire. The porridge will be heated on the campfire, with the toast, toasted on the coals. You’ll head out for either a morning game walk or a game drive, entering the park by boat from the camp or from the nearby pontoon. The game in the area is excellent and includes many family herds of elephants and endemic species of giraffe, the Thornicroft Giraffe.

A mid-morning break of tea, coffee and cake will be taken at a scenic point on the lagoon or on the Luangwa River. You will return to the camp for lunch, after which you can relax in the camp pool or enjoy a siesta.

Following afternoon tea, you’ll head back out for an afternoon game drive that will continue early in the evening, allowing you a glimpse in the nocturnal activities of many of the animals. You’ll return to the camp at approximately 20:00 for dinner served at 20:30.

Overnight you’ll be staying at the Nkwali Camp on a full board basis.

Day 4:
This morning, you’ll be transferred with a game drive through the park to the crossing point on the Luangwa River. The Nsefu staff will meet you, and you’ll cross the river by boat, then enjoy a 45 minute drive to the camp with game viewing en route. Nsefu was the first game camp in Zambia and dates back to the early fifties. The Nsefu Sector was recognised then as a superb area, and still is! At the Nsefu Camp, there are six round rondavels with luxurious en suite facilities and each room benefits from a clear view of the sweeping bend of the Luangwa River through large windows and from the wooden verandas. Upon your arrival you’ll be shown to your rondavel, then have lunch. In the afternoon, you’ll head out for an evening game drive.

Your overnight arrangements will be at the Nsefu Camp on a full board basis.

Day 5 & 6:
Today will be at your leisure, during which you’ll have the chance to experience game drives or a guided walk through the ebony groves. Or you could decide to explore the Nsefu sector of the National Park, taking an all day picnic with you if you head to the salt pans, which will cover a large variety of habitats and provide a superb safari experience. Overnight you’ll be staying at the Nsefu Camp on a full board basis.

Day 7:
After breakfast, you’ll be transferred to Mfuwe Airport, the journey taking approximately 1.5 hours, here you’ll connect with your flight to Lilongwe. The flight time to Lilongwe is approximately 50 minutes.

Upon arrival at Lilongwe’s Kamuzu Airport, you will be met by our staff who will assist you to your Pumulani flight. Pumulani is situated on the Westside of the Nankumba Peninsula on the South end of Lake Malawi – romantically called ‘The Lake of the Stars’.

The ten villas are scattered around the hillside and are individual in shape and style but all have a spacious bedroom, bathroom and extensive sitting area. The front sliding doors open onto the deck, elevated above the ground, providing some stunning views.

The central dinning and bar area is high above the lake with the most spectacular views and leads onto an expansive deck. On a deck below this, you’ll find an infinity swimming pool. The lake shore bar offers light snacks as well as refreshments. Meals will be served in the dining area, on the beach or even on your private deck if you arrange for it.

The stunning setting of the lodge and the unique comfort of the rooms means that many guests choose to make relaxation their main activity but there are enough activities available to keep all guests busy!

Overnight you’ll be staying at Pumulani on a full board basis.

Day 8:
Today you’ll enjoy your first full day of relaxation at Pumulani. The remote beach setting is ideal for those who simply want to soak up the sun and swim in the clear blue waters of the lake. Those who prefer to take a dive in the swimming pool can do in the infinity pool.

In terms of activities, you can indulge in activities such as: snorkeling, fishing, sailing, kayaking, water skiing and wake boarding. Motorized water activities are also available at an additional cost.

At the end of the day, you’ll board the Pumulani dhow and the crew will sail you into the sunset for a sundowner. After this, you’ll return to the Pumulani for your overnight arrangements on a full board basis.

Day 9 & 10:
Lake Malawi is the world’s most ecologically diverse lake. Its crystal clear waters are home to more than a thousand species of fish, including hundreds of species of colourful cichlids. Pumulani offers special diving courses at the best diving spots near one of the islands.

For those who are interested in the real Malawian village life, you can embark on a guided walk through one of the local villages. Malawians are renowned for being amongst the friendliest people in Africa and during your stay you have the opportunity to meet them. You can also simply relax in the beautiful and tranquil scenery or enjoy the many other activities on offer. Your overnight arrangements will be at Pumulani on a full board basis.

Day 11:
Today, depending on the time of your connecting flight, you may have a lazy morning or an early breakfast before heading off to Lilongwe to connect with your onward international arrangements.
