Introduction

The former Kingdom of Nepal is tucked away in the Himalayas between China and India. The country has three distinct geographical regions : the Terrai, the Valleys and Foothills and the High Himalayas.

The Terrai, which is the lowland area adjoining India, is famous for Royal Chitwan National Park, home of the tiger and elephant-back safaris. The Valleys comprise the Kathmandu and Pokhara Valleys, where the majority of the population lives. The High Himalayas, including Everest Base Camp and the Annapurnas, have been made famous by trekkers from around the world.
