SGKH 02 - 3 nights Serengeti, 3 nights Gombe, 1 night Kigoma

The name Serengeti stems from the Maasai word “Siring” meaning “endless plain”, a true description of the world’s most legendary national park. The size of the ecosystem, including the national park, conservation area and the gam reserves is lose to 35,000 square kilometers, virtually the same size as Belgium. The Serengeti hosts the largest concentration of wildlife in the world and is home to one of the great wonders in the world, the Great Migration. Over a million Wildebeest move annually from the southern plains, where they give birth in January – March, to the north and the Mara River, and back, accompanied by Zebra and other migratory mammals. Predators like lion, cheetah, hyena, hunting dogs and crocodiles make sure only the strongest survive. Add optional excursions to the Ngorongoro Crater and Olduvai Gorge. Highlights will include outside showers with panoramic views of the Nyamuma and Musabi plains from the privacy of your room’s balcony, sundowners around our fireplace, optional massage services and Hot Air Balloon Safaris. 

With the only lodge in the park, Mbali Mbali allows you to explore the smallest of Tanzania’s national parks. Gombe Stream National Park is a fragile strip of chimpanzee habitat that straddles the steep slopes and river valleys that hem the northern shores of Lake Tanganyika. It’s chimpanzees, habituated to human visitors, were made famous by the pioneering work of Jane Goodall who in the 1960’s founded a behavioral research program that now stands as the longest-running study of its kind in the world. 

Kigoma is the largest town on the shores of Lake Tanganyika in Tanzania. Take some time to explore the hustle and bustle, take in a historical tour and visit Stanley and Livingstone’s meeting place, or learn more about the Kigoma way of life by visiting the local fish markets. You can also pass through the port and catch a glimpse of the MV. Liemba, now a passenger and cargo ferry, which was previously used by the Germans to patrol the lake. 

This itinerary includes flights from Arusha. However, we can amend the program to end in Dar es Salaam using Air Tanzania Flights between Dar es Salaam Airport to Kigoma Airport. You can book these flights directly with the airline (www.airtanzania.co.tz). The price of the package will reduce without the shared charter sector flight from Kigoma to Arusha.
