Located just 48 kilometres northwest from Barcelona, and part of the Catalan Pre-Coastal Range, Montserrat is a historic and scenic mountain retreat which makes an interesting addition to any Catalonian travel itinerary. The mountain formation which gives the area its name is spectacular, with steep limestone peaks protruding from the hillside, and its key sight, the Benedictine abbey of Santa Maria de Montserrat, is situated about halfway up the mountain face. An important pilgrimage site (said to be home to the iconic Black Virgin of Montserrat), the retreat location can be paired with the Parc Natural de la Muntanya de Montserrat into a two-stop trip. The park’s protected natural area is home to amazing hiking trails, including a route to the summit of Sant Jeroni, offering breathtaking views.
Situated in northeastern Spain, the city of Lugo serves as the capital of the province. This ancient city features a beautifully-preserved two-kilometre Roman wall, which has been awarded UNESCO World Heritage status. It is the only city in the world that is encircled by a completely intact wall. Visitors can look forward to excellent views while strolling on the wall and discover tree-lined plazas in the heart of Lugo. This picturesque city is set is along the Camino Primitivo path of the Camino de Santiago - a world-renowned pilgrimage. Portomarin is a fascinating town in Spain’s Lugo Province, set along the Way of St. James. The town as it stands today, atop a hill, was only built in the 1960s, while the original village, which dates back to medieval times, lies under the waters of the River Mino after the local reservoir flooded. Some important pieces of the old town were saved, namely the Romanesque church of San Pedro and the striking church fortress of San Nicolas, among a few others. The ruins of the original bridge - only a base and one arch - remain guard at the entrance to the new structure. Besides the curious stories and rich heritage surrounding this event, visitors will also delight in the chance to visit the many surrounding wine farms, or simply stay put in Portomarin to enjoy its famous locally produced brandy.

Head to the seaside town of Ponte Vedra to explore its atmospheric old quarter, to Cabo de Udra to see its boulder-strewn coast and glittering bays, and to the metropolis of Vigo for great shopping, nightlife and seafront vistas.
Melide, set on the banks of the breathtaking Lugano Lake in Spain’s Galicia region, is significant for many reasons. Firstly, for pilgrims of the St James Way: the Camino Primitivo (Original Way) ends here, while the Camino Frances (French Way) passes through.
