The bustling seaside city of Portsmouth is set on the north-western coast of Dominica, just north of the Cabrits National Park. While the rest of the island is not particularly known for its beaches, Portsmouth boasts an impressive six beaches, many of which are perfectly idyllic and well-suited to swimming, sunbathing, and evenings spent watching the sunset from the seaside cocktail bars. Active travellers will delight in the chance to enjoy boat rides, fishing, diving, and sailing, and night owls will find a vibrant scene of French, reggae, Spanish and local music with which to party the night away. Nature lovers can explore a range of wild landscapes at the nearby park, including tropical forest, wetlands, and beautiful coral reefs. Dominica’s second-largest town is still relatively undiscovered, offering a more untamed and authentic destination than its neighbour and capital, Roseau.
