Spanning over 930 square kilometres, and one of Gabon’s most accessible parks, Pongara National Park, is astonishingly beautiful. Extending over the Pointe Denis peninsula and the southern Gabon Estuary, this stunning area encompasses moist tropical forests, lush mangroves, some grassy savanna and a long strip of sandy beach, making it a magical escape from the hustle and bustle of nearby Libreville. Known for its exceptionally diverse scenery, this remote area offers beachside camping, hiking trails and animal spotting. The lush greenery provides a home for abundant animal life, including elephant, monkey, gorilla and buffalo. At the same time, the estuary and beaches are the breeding ground for leatherback sea turtle, hawksbill sea turtle and olive ridley sea turtle. Keep an eye out for the magnificent humpback whales, who tend to visit the region during the dry seasons of July to October.
