One of the original natural wonders of the world, the Victoria Falls is a World Heritage Site and an extremely popular tourism attraction. Known locally as ‘The Smoke that Thunders’ this spectacle is accessible from both Zambia and Zimbabwe and it is an ideal place to combine game viewing and water sports. There is excellent fishing, a terrifying bungee jump and arguably the best commercial white water rafting in the world.

Lower Zambezi National Park, Zambia

Days 3 - 7

Located on the Zimbabwean border in the southern reaches of Zambia, the Lower Zambezi region is best known as the home to the Lower Zambezi National Park which features exceptional, undeveloped wildlife areas. It is renowned for its abundant game - hippos, buffalo, crocodiles, fish eagles, and herds of elephants can be spotted, among other species. The landscape is characterised by rugged, unspoilt wilderness of vast floodplains, scattered with indigenous woodlands. Visitors can look forward to an array of wonderful activities along the Zambezi including game drives, walking safaris, canoe trips, and excellent tiger fishing.

South Luangwa National Park, Zambia

Days 7 - 10

Bordering the Luangwa River, the northern and southern Luangwa National Parks contain some of the most breathtaking and untouched wilderness in Africa. As a result of this and the parks’ successful anti-poaching campaigns, the area has developed into a world-renowned wildlife haven. The South Luangwa National Park is renowned for its walking safari, which allows visitors to view elephant, hippo and even lion close-up under the supervision of professional and knowledgeable armed guides.

Dedza District

Days 10 - 11

Dedza District is a large area in Malawi’s Central Region, best known for its four forest reserves. Of these, the most exceptional is Chongoni, which encompasses an archaeological area featuring over 100 ancient rock art sites. Scientists believe these were made in the Stone and Iron Ages, constituting the most significant collection of cave paintings in Central Africa. Dedza Mountain is a popular hiking spot - it stands at over 2 000 metres and takes about two hours to reach the top. At the base of the mountain lies the capital of the region, Dedza City, surrounded by forested hills. It is a convenient place to stock up on essentials and buy local pottery, for which the area is famous.

Northern Mozambique

Days 11 - 12

Mozambique becomes increasingly wilder and more beautiful further north, yet it still offers luxury and exclusivity for those who desire it. The city of Pemba offers exquisite sandy beaches where visitors can walk for miles without encountering another soul, while just a short boat trip off the mainland will take you to hundreds of small islands. Among the most captivating of these islands is the tiny ‘Mozambique Island’, a 500-metre-wide three-kilometre-long crescent-shaped islet dotted with historical churches, chapels, palaces, forts and mosques. The idyllic Quirimbas Archipelago features white-sand beaches lapped by turquoise waters surrounded by coral reefs teeming with marine life.

Northern Mozambique

Vilanculos, Southern Mozambique

Days 12 - 16

Situated in the Mozambican province of Inhambane, Vilanculos is a laidback town featuring some lovely beaches lapped by crystal-clear turquoise waters. It is stocked with all the amenities needed for a fantastic seaside holiday. This bustling coastal town has its own international airport and serves as a great base for exploring the idyllic islands of the Bazaruto Archipelago. The town itself offers good diving, a wide range of accommodation choices and lively nightlife. Visitors can jump on a traditional dhow boat and venture to the pristine Bazaruto Archipelago, browse for fresh produce and locally-made souvenirs in the bustling market in the centre of town, and spend the day soaking up the sun on an array of idyllic beaches.
