Spread across southeastern Lika and northern Dalmatia, Zadar County provides an astonishing wealth of historical, natural and cultural attractions in the heart of the Adriatic. Zadar city is a treasure trove of archaeological and monumental treasures from ancient, medieval, and Renaissance buildings to impressive contemporary structures, the unmissable highlights being The Sea Organ, a set of marble steps and hidden tubes lapped by waves to create soothing music, and Sun Salutation, a dazzling installation that creates a spectacular evening light show. Slightly inland, on the southern slope of Velebti Mountain, is Paklenica National Park, ideal for the more adventurous, as its soaring peaks, caves, and deep gorges are beautifully interspersed with beech and pine forests - perfect for hiking and climbing. Leaving out the islands in Zadar County would be a mistake. Moonrock-like Pag Island's barren, rocky, vast landscape is a sight to behold. The spectacular beaches, coves, and hidden bays surrounding the islands are perfect for kayaking, snorkelling, and sailing.
