Vanua Levu

Days 3 - 5

Formerly known as ‘Sandalwood Island’, Vanua Levu is the second largest of Fiji’s 333 magical islands. Only a short flight away from the main island of Viti Levu, it is home to some of the country's finest luxury facilities, but it still manages to retain its atmosphere of wild, untouched remoteness. Hilly Vanua Levu is mainly comprised of dense rainforest, small coastal villages, and two disparate coastal towns on its north and south sides. Labasa, the island’s largest ‘city’, consists of little more than a single street lined with shops, while Savusavu, to the south, attracts yachties, divers, and holidaymakers looking for a quiet tropical getaway. Inland, visitors will find a verdant mountainous environment that provides a haven for some rare, exotic animals; while the heavily indented coast is fringed by an extensive system of coral reefs.
