Jakarta

11 Nov 2027 - 12 Nov 2027

Located on the northwest of the island of Java, bustling Jakarta is Indonesia’s economic, cultural and political centre. What this chaotic capital lacks in idyllic beaches and palm-lined avenues it more than makes up for with its world-class nightlife, fascinating heritage, and its exceptionally hospitable locals. In the north of the city is the tourist-focused area commonly referred to as Kota Tua or simply Kota, which features an array of colonial buildings and excellent museums. Aside from its many historical treasures, Jakarta is known for its 174 giant, glittering malls. With its cosmopolitan shopping, diverse gourmet dining choices, and its abundance of performing and visual arts venues, Jakarta is more than just a convenient stopover for those on their way to Bali’s famous beaches.

Opportunities for snorkelling and diving are excellent, and the southern coast is lined with traditional beachfront homestays nestled near lively local villages. Kayaking and dolphin watching are popular activities at Kabui Bay, with white sand beaches and clear waters on the south side, while the northern parts are lined with mangroves and filled with karst islands.
