Dominica's southwest coast is home to the tranquil village of Soufrière, the capital of Saint Mark Parish, embraced by volcanic peaks, lush rainforests, and pristine waters. Among its distinctive features are the 18th-century Soufrière Roman Catholic Church of St. Mark, constructed from volcanic stone, and the remnants of the L. Rose Lime Oil factory, established in 1884, which produced lime oil from local citrus fruits. Though Hurricane David in 1979 devastated the factory, some machinery and buildings still stand. The nearby Sulphur Springs' invigorating hot baths and the scenic Scotts Head Peninsula, a prime spot for snorkelling and diving at Dominica's southernmost tip, add to the island's allure.
