Elephant and Monkey Sanctuaries (Half Day) ELM001

This half-day tour of The Elephant Sanctuary Hartbeespoort Dam provides fully guided interactive elephant educational programs covering elephant habits, dynamics, behavior and anatomy and provides a safe haven and “halfway house” for African elephants. The main focus of the sanctuary is to educate visitors about all aspects of elephants and elephant husbandry, with the vision to release elephants into an environment where they can be more independent. One minute down the road is the Bushbabies Monkey Sanctuary which is one of the eight free-release primate sanctuaries globally. Previously raised as household pets, or bred for the pet trade, a variety of exotic monkeys are introduced to a wild world laden with waterfalls, lush vegetation, natural mountain springs and the chance to reside in as natural and environment as possible. Our goal is to give them the opportunity to live as they would in the wild. The non-interactive tour provides guests the understanding that monkeys do not make good pets, and that they are better suited to a natural, free-living environment.
