Trip Summary

The Winelands are overflowing with vineyards, each producing unique wines with a range of flavours and tastes. One thing that’s often overlooked during a fleeting visit is the variety of ways one may explore the area while learning about a range of wine producing techniques.

We start the day with a gentle stroll in the expansive gardens of Babylonstoren which are steeped in fascinating history. A working farm dating back to 1692, Babylonstoren is a historic Cape Dutch farm that boasts one of the best preserved farmyards in the Cape.

Continuing our day's journey we make our way to Warwick Estate,  where we taste a selection of their understated classic wine which exudes elegance.  Once a fruit farm, Warwick only truly emerged to the forefront of the South African wine scene in 1984, 20 years after the estate was purchased by the winemaker. Today, Warwick has become known as one of the most welcoming destinations with a truly authentic experience & friendly ambiance.

For lunch, we will make our way to one of the local restaurants on a wine farm for a relaxed lunch experience.

Wind down the afternoon with a visit to Waterford Estate in Stellenbosch. Whether you’re a wine novice or master, a fun-loving traveler or a foodie, there’s a Waterford Estate tasting experience with your name on it. Waterford Estate offers unique tasting experiences, making it easy to explore the team’s award-winning wines, right where they’re produced, in a way that suits your preference. Waterford Estate in Stellenbosch boasts old citrus groves, rolling lawns, a magnificent centre piece, The Waterford Estate fountain and fragrant lavender and rosemary beds.

The Wine and Chocolate tasting is a unique flavour experience. There are three inspired pairings - the Kevin Arnold Shiraz with a Masala Chai Dark Chocolate, the Waterford Estate Cabernet Sauvignon with Rock Salt Dark Chocolate and the Heatherleigh Noble Late Harvest paired with Rose Geranium Milk Chocolate. These are beautifully presented on a specially designed tasting board featuring the three tasting glasses and their matching three chocolate tablets. Guests are guided through the tasting with a description of the flavours of each combination that they will encounter in both the wine and from the chocolate.

Time permitting, we visit Hidden Valley Wines for a unique wine tasting and walk around the vineyards. Sit back, relax and enjoy their stunning views and farm while you sip on their award winning wines. The winery is a state of the art, gravity fed cellar built from stone, wood and glass – all purposely selected to present a contemporary yet functional structure. The cellar is surrounded by vineyards, olive groves, almond orchards and fynbos gardens, each occupying an integral part of the farms’ ecosystem.
