Trip Summary

All year round, the Batoka Gorge Hike and Ndebele Village Tour offers a glimpse at timeless African rural life. Experience the magic as the tour starts about 20km downstream of the Victoria Falls and ends at an authentic Ndebele homestead, where hosts are keen to share their traditions and provide an introduction to their culture.

A 40-minute drive through the countryside of Zimbabwe on off-road terrain will offer picturesque scenery on the way to the top of the Gorge. After the safety and procedural briefing you will take the vertical descent to Rapid 23 and enjoy the hour long walk along the river to rapid 25. Swim and relax in the eddy before the arduous climb out. The hiking continues into an authentic beautiful Ndebele homestead where you will get a chance to interact with the local headman and his family while you have brunch under the thatched shade of their decorated mud huts. The graceful hosts are keen to show off their home, share their cultural way of life in relation to family, education, livestock, diet and anything you may find interesting. This is a non-seasonal activity which can be enjoyed throughout the year.
