10 Nights exploring Gonarezhou with Doug Macdonald - June -July 2027

Day 1

Sat. 26 Jun 2027

Gonarezhou National Park

Day notes

The best way to come into Gonarezhou is with a charter flight either from another park like Hwange and Mana Pools or Harare and Victoria Falls - we can discuss the best plan that fits your complete safari itinerary.

When you land we shall be there to meet you at the airstrip which is a little bit out of the park but in 15mins you are in the park after crossing the Save River so the safari starts really right from the airstrip.

Day 2 - 3

27 Jun 2027 - 28 Jun 2027

Gonarezhou National Park

Day notes

This area of the park is where two major perennial rivers meet creating a wonderful environment that combines large seasonal pans - open flood plains - beautiful landscapes - palm forests and wonderful variety and volume of wildlife. Eland, Bushbuck, Nyala, Wildebeest, Buffalo, Hippos, Warthogs, are all in here along with the big predators.

Your days here will be a combination of game drives and bush walks often combined to ensure we get the best from any sighting opportunities and to fit your interests.

Day 4

Tue. 29 Jun 2027

Gonarezhou National Park

Day notes

We move from the East of the Park following the Runde River on a safari drive transfer to reach our next camp - depending on what we would like to achieve this day we may also go with a packed lunch and make a full day of it and explore some very remote areas on the long way around to camp.

Day 5 - 7

30 Jun 2027 - 2 Jul 2027

Gonarezhou National Park

Day notes

The Runde River is a large perennial river is responsible for carving out the famous Chilojo Cliffs and your  tented camp is on the banks of the river underneath towering Riverine Trees overlooking the Cliffs. It is also a top wildlife area and it also gives us easy access to the Rhino areas of the park so we will likely spend some time in there looking for these highly endangered animals as well.

As before your days here will be spent doing either game drives or bush walks and often a combination of the two depending on your particular interests and what is happening at the time so we get the best from any sighting and experience.

Depending on the weather and guests we may also decide to do a night out fly camping while we are here - a great way to explore a new area and complete the safari experience.

The tented camp has large walk in safari tents with their own attached bathroom which has a bucket shower system and flush loo , solar lighting and comfortable beds with mattress and proper linen. All very comfortable and fit for purpose to ensure when we leave there is little evidence we were ever there.

Day 8

Sat. 3 Jul 2027

Gonarezhou National Park

Day notes

Today we load up and head all the way down to the South of the Park. There are a number of route options which we will discuss to suit. Along the way there are a number of small natural pans which make great stop off points for a rest and game viewing as we make through these sandveld areas of the park which look very much like the Kalahari in some respects and has some interesting birdlife through here as well, like Racket Tailed Rollers, Violet Eared Waxbills, Shaft Tailed Whydah and many more.

Day 9 - 10

4 Jul 2027 - 5 Jul 2027

Gonarezhou National Park

Day notes

Our camp here are great little cottages overlooking the Mwenezi River in a famous area of it called Buffalo Bend so there is always wildlife in view coming in here to drink which you can see from this lofty view over the river.

As before our days here will be a combination of walks and drives and sometimes just finding a nice spot under a tree to watch the busy game trails that bring the herds of buffalo down to the river to drink is a great way to enjoy this area. Wildebeest and a wonderful population of giraffe, nyala, elephants, zebra, warthogs  are all on show here along with a whole host of other species and their predators.
