Day 1: Cape Town

Arrive today by own arrangements in Cape Town, South Africa. After clearing immigration and customs formalities you will be met and transferred to the Southern Sun Waterfront Hotel.

Day 2: Cape Town

Pickup time at your hotel:  8:00 am.  This tour can run in the opposite direction at the guide’s discretion, with your best interests in mind. (Duration 9 hours)

This morning you’ll be met at your hotel by your private guide who will show you the beautiful Cape Peninsula and the rugged Cape Point.  You’ll leave from the City along the Atlantic coastline via the scenic drive of Oudekraal, to Hout Bay, where an optional boat cruise (at own cost to be paid locally, and subject to favorable weather conditions), to Seal Island is possible.  This small island is a sanctuary for thousands of Cape Fur Seals and a variety of seabirds.  This portion of the trip lasts around 45 minutes and provides beautiful views of Hout Bay.

From here you’ll cross over the mountain by way of the spectacular Chapmans Peak drive (subject to the road being open) or via Constantia Nek and ‘Ou Kaapse Weg’ (the Old Cape Road) en-route to the Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve.  Here you’ll have the option of using the funicular or walking up to the main viewing site.  Leaving this point, you’ll continue along the False Bay Coastline to visit the Jackass Penguin colony at Boulders Beach.  This route is an incredibly scenic drive through popular small villages including historic Simon’s Town, Fish Hoek, Kalk Bay, with its harbor and quirky shops, and the surfers’ choice, Muizenberg.

A lunch stop is made, either at Cape Point or in the village of Simons Town.  The final stop of the day is at the Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens, after which you’ll be returned to your hotel in the late afternoon.

Included: All entrance fees and funicular ticket at Cape Point

Day 3: Cape Town

Pickup time at your hotel:  8:30 am (Duration 9 hours)

This morning you’ll be met at your hotel by your private guide, who will share with you a scenic excursion from Cape Town, as you explore the famous winelands of the Western Cape.  Beautiful valleys are filled with lush green vineyards, small pockets of rural villages all surrounded by rugged mountains, and historic estates dating back hundreds of years, producing world class wines.  On departure your guide will discuss the day’s routing with you, according to your preferences and the guide’s insights.  There are three principal wine regions to visit today: Paarl, nestled in the beautiful Drakenstein Valley and not far from the others, Stellenbosch and Franschhoek, about 45 minutes’ drive from Cape Town.

The name Paarl derives from the granite boulders that shine in the sunlight when the granite is moist, overlooking the town.  From Paarl, you’ll continue along the Berg River valley to the picturesque town of Franschhoek, where you’ll have the opportunity to walk through the quaint village.  The tour provides ample opportunity to see the fabulous Cape Dutch architecture and experience the surrounding wine areas.  There are over 300 wine estates in this region, and you’ll learn about the history of wine-making in the Western Cape, with visits to at least three estates for wine tastings and a cellar tour.  A suitable stop will also be made for you to enjoy a relaxing lunch at a local restaurant or street café. You can also visit the historic university town of Stellenbosch for an orientation of the town as you explore the surrounding wine producing areas.  You’ll be returned to your hotel in the late afternoon.

Included: Three wine tastings (one as part of a wine cellar tour), and admission to the Stellenbosch Village Museum.

Excluded: cost of lunch

Days 4 - 6: Timbavati Private Nature Reserve

After breakfast you will be transferred by private vehicle to the airport for a flight to Hoedspruit located alongside the famous Kruger National Park. Upon arrival you will be met and transferred to Simbavati River Lodge which enjoys a unique setting on the banks of the Kruger Park’s Nhlaralumi River in the Timbavati Private Game Reserve.

One of its winning charms is the popular waterhole right below the dining deck, much loved by elephant. Between game drives, you could enjoy a game-viewing experience of note just sitting on the deck as wildlife comes and goes from the water.

Enjoy early morning and late afternoon / evening game drives in shared open safari vehicles.

Day 7: End of Itinerary

Following a final morning game drive you will be transferred to Skukuza Airport for a flight to Johannesburg.
