Day 1: Nairobi

On arrival at Jomo Kenyatta Airport in Nairobi, you will be met and assisted through immigration and customs and baggage collection.  You then exit the terminal where you will met by your driver and transfer to Macushla House, a drive of about an hour (traffic dependent).

Day 2: Laikipia

After breakfast, you are transferred to Wilson Airport to check in for the flight departing to Laikipia.

On landing, you are met by your guide and owner of Karisia Walking Safaris and her team and transfer with a game drive en route to Nayasura Camp arriving in time for lunch.

On arrival Nayasura mobile-tented camp you will be greeted by the team of Laikipia Masai and Samburu staff. The local Laikipia Masai call these rocks Nayasura and stone chippings suggest that they have been used as a camp for millennia. You too will use the rocks starting with a refreshing lunch and short afternoon rest.

Once it cools off a little you will head out on a walk looking for game and getting a feel for the country. As the sun begins to set you will find yourselves at the crest of Nayasura with drinks and snacks, watching the baboons come back to roost on the face of the rock. Back at camp after hot showers and drinks around the fire you will have a sit down dinner under the stars.

Your walk for the next few days will be moderate walking of about 8 - 12 kms each morning.

Day 3: Laikipia

From Nayasura you will head out early after breakfast to see as much game as possible on the walk north towards Nyarara Camp.

Nyarara means cheetah in Masai and the camp was given this name because of a large male that has been seen in the area. You will walk across large plains as well as mixed bush looking for herds of Common and Grevy’s zebra, oryx and Grant’s gazelle, which predominate on the large plains. In the mixed bush you find Dik Diks, Gerenuk, Impala and Lesser Kudu if you are lucky enough to see them. The pack camels with your camp will have taken a more direct route and they will have arrived and set up the camp before your arrival for lunch and a cold drink.

After lunch you  will relax and walk to a pretty spot for sundowners. Along the walk you will walk across large plains as well as mixed bush.  Herds of Zebra, Oryx and Grant’s gazelle predominate on the large plains.  In the mixed bush you'll have he chance to find Dikdiks, Gerenuk, Impala and Lesser Kudu.

Day 4: Laikipia

Today you will be heading down toward the Ewaso Nyiro River, which runs along the eastern edge of the Laikipia Plateau and then turns eastward toward Samburu National Reserve.

Along the way you'll be looking for Eland, Steinbuck and Giraffe and enjoy the changing scenery.  When you arrive at the river you may want to take a quick swim before lunch.

After lunch you can visit a local manyatta and watch the livestock coming in for the night or head to a pretty rock for some rock climbing with trained guides and a sundowner.

Days 5 - 6: Laikipia

After breakfast, you trek to Tumaren Camp which is set on the edge of a wide plain this beautiful camp looks west towards beautiful granitic inselbergs that define the local landscape. Each tent is furnished uniquely and all the tents offer sweeping verandas from which most of the plains game can be spotted. The grasslands are rich with wildlife and you can spend hours watching animals wander by or photographing the huge variety of birds coming to the bird bath.

Tumaren is rich in wildlife and your Samburu and Masai guides provide a great perspective on not only the game but also the local cultures of Northern Kenya. The guides will plan the days according to your desires, wildlife and the local calendar.  Each day can include guided walks, camel rides, game drives, birdwatching, picnics, tracking, visiting a local manyatta or market (if the day is right), visiting a school, rock climbing, or rafting in the river.  If you are interested they can arrange an early morning walk with a local troupe of baboons that have been studied for the last 20 years or a visit to the Mpala Research Centre to learn about the research projects that they are involved in.

On a typical day you wake up early and after breakfast, set off on a walk looking for wildlife and their tracks.  The camels accompany you carrying extra lenses, clothing, water and snacks but they also can be ridden for a better perspective of the country. On the way you might climb Losera Moru, a spectacular rock with views to Mount Kenya in the south. If you are lucky you might spot a Striped Hyena, a Klipspringers or the Wild dogs that have denned there for the past few years.

You spend the next two nights at Tumaren Camp enjoying daily activities on offer.

Days 7 - 9: Masai Mara

Today you climb up and out of the river valley, where you bid farewell to your guides and transfer to Loisaba airstrip in time for the scheduled light air flight to the Masai Mara.

On landing at Keekorok airstrip, you will be met by your driver/guide and transferred with a game drive en route to Entumoto Camp, arriving in time for lunch.

You spend the next three nights at Entumoto Toto Camp enjoying the facilities on offer as well as day and night game drives on a private vehicle basis and guided bush walks

Overnights: Entumoto Toto Camp - 3 nights - All meals,  selected beverages, day and night game drives on a private vehicle basis, guided bush walks and laundry

Day 10: End of Itinerary

Today you depart Africa!  You are transferred to Keekorok airstrip  for the scheduled light air flight to Wilson Airport in Nairobi.

On landing at Wilson, you will be met by your driver and transferred to Macushla House arriving in time for lunch.

After lunch, you head to the Giraffe Centre where you can feed the Rothschild Giraffe (entrance fees payable direct) and visit Utamaduni Craft Centre for any last minute shopping. 

Transfer back to Macushla House to freshen up and have dinner before being transferred to Jomo Kenyatta Airport for your home-bound flight and depart Africa.
