Day 5: Lake Eyasi

We wake up early and enjoy coffee brewed on the fire and a light breakfast. We head out into the hills, escorted by our guides to visit a Hadza encampment, and go hunting, gathering, and hiking with the Hadza into the surrounded woodlands and hills. No two days are identical; the bounty of the season will dictate our activities as well as your own interest.

For a short while, we will try and see as our Hadza guides do. Depending on the season, we might go foraging with the women, dig for roots and tubers, collect berries or trap rodents, or we can range out with the men through the wildlife-rich woodland between towering Baobabs and gnarled acacias, looking for birds and wildlife to hunt. The women are equipped with digging sticks while the men are armed with longbows with poison-tipped arrows and homemade axes used to excavate honey hives. If successful while foraging or hunting, you will be offered to share their caught meal, wild honey, a small antelope, a Francolin, berries, or baobab fruit.

After a morning of learning and adventure, you bid farewell to your Hadza guides and head back to Kisima Ngeda Camp. You will return to camp on time for lunch, a good shower, and a rest.
