Santiago - Island tour

With this excursion, we will enjoy na unforgettable journey in the North of the island – to Tarrafal, we will contemplate the unique landscapes of Santiago island. High mountains, plains and green valleys, we will notice that the landscape completely changes from the one in Praia.​

​The first stop will be done in São Domingos, where we will visit the Eco Centro. We will see different villages, passing by the Antónia peak, the higest point of the island. 60km away from Praia, we will find the city of Assomada, an important point for trades, where we will visit the traditional market (only wednesdays and saturdays). ​

​The ride continues passing through the region of Serra da Malagueta, with its eucalyptus forest, few acacias types and other endemic plants. ​

​We will finally arrive to Tarrafal, a fishermen village where we will have the opportunity to visit the old concentration camp, transformed nowadays into a museum, and then we will go to the incredible bay, with its nice sea, surrounded by palm trees – considered as one of the most beautiful beaches in the country.​

​Lunch next to the sea and free time to dive into the clear water.​

​After, we will make a stop at the “rabelados” village of Espinho Branco – a religious community, who rebeled itself against the society and the church during the colonial time, and now maintains its unique traditions. Here, we will have the chance to see and buy some hand-craft pieces, paintings, while we learn more about this culture. ​

​Before to go back to Praia, we will see the small bays, caves and black sand beaches, stopping in the beautiful area of Pedra Badejo. ​

Day 3: Fogo

Departure to a new destination, new adventure...

After your arrival at S. Filipe in Fogo Island, get ready to one of the most amazing discovery tours of this iconic island.

Fogo - Full day Tour

We pass by Cabeça Fundão, where you can see the old craters... it's a wonderful landscape! As we reach the entrance of the Natural Park, we will stop for photos and to enjoy the calmness of this lunar landscape. Here we can see the highest point of the island in its fullness, the peak of Fogo Island, as well as the 2014 crater.

You can choose to climb to the last crater (Pico Pequeno), to enjoy a multicolored landscape, with the presence of sulfur and extremely hot sites (optional upon supplement and with medium difficulty). The hike takes approximately 3 hours, depending on the physical condition of the participants.

Then, we arrive at Portela, one of the towns that was swallowed by lavas in 2014, but which today is already rebuilt with restaurants, small pensions, homes and other small structures.

We will have lunch at a local restaurant and we still have the opportunity to taste the traditional wine of Chã das Caldeiras, known as 'manecon".

Day 4: Praia

Departure to return to our starting point - Santiago Island.

Now is the time to get to know the city - Praia and a place named World Heritage by UNESCO, the historic Cidade Velha (Old Town).

Santiago - Praia/Cidade Velha Tour

We will start with a walk in the historical center of Praia – the «Plateau», where we will see the cross district, the place, the church and the public market, the art street of Ponta Belém, going down via the Sukupira market.​

​After that, we will take the bus to Cidade Velha, located 20 min away from the capital, the first city builted by the Portugues in Africa and considered as the cradle of Cape Verde. ​

The historical center of Ribeira Grande, renamed «Cidade Velha» at the end of the XVIIIth century, siècle, classified as a UNESCO World Heritage in 2009 and, caring its historical remains, the majority of the ruins and its typical architecture (wall made with rocks and roof made with thatch) are well preserved. ​

​We will visit the São Filipe Fort, 100 meters above the sea level. It was build to protect the city from the pirates that were constantly attacking the city between the XVIth and the XVIIth century – among them Francis Drake and Jacques Cassard.​

​At our arrival in Cidade Velha, we will visit each monument and ruin, including the old cathedral, the São Franciso convent, the Nossa Senhora do Rosário church (the first church established in the old colonies), the Banana street and the old slaves market, with its pillory. ​

The lunch will take place in a restaurant close to the sea, in the center of Cidade Velha. The tour includes the transfer and the guide. ​

Day 5: Santa Maria

 OPTIONAL - SAL ISLAND

If you wish you can choose to extend your stay at Cape Verde, by visiting Sal Island.

Here you will have the chance to relax and enjoy the beautiful white sand and chrystal clear water beaches.

Day 6: Santa Maria

Free day or in option SAL Half Day Tour.

SAL - QUADS EXPERIENCE

We suggest an offroad adventure to the south of the island, on board of quads, one of the best and funniest ways to discover the island!

 

Vehicles:  Maximum of 30 doubled quads (each person will be able to drive, there will be several stops). We will make some stops, such as: Kite Beach, Santa Maria Salt mines or Ponta Preta beach.

 

Please note that speed will be moderated, due to safety reasons.
