Day 5
Palmwag Concession Area
Today, our camping adventure begins far away from civilisation. We drive into the Palmwag Concession, a private nature reserve of about 5 000 km². The vegetation becomes more and more sparse and the landscape is all the more fascinating for it. Variously coloured peaks and table mountains and the lava remains of several volcanoes that were active 130 million years ago surround us. With a bit of luck, we could spot the endangered black rhinos that inhabit this area.
We enjoy the evening around the campfire under an open, starry sky.

We continue our trip in the direction of the Skeleton Coast, to the dry riverbed of the Hoanib - a unique and vast landscape. Large ana and camelthorn trees populate an otherwise arid landscape. We partake in a search of the rare desert elephants and lions. Hyenas as well as giraffes, oryx, springboks, steenboks and black-backed jackals can also be found here. We are sure to enjoy the thrill of the open-air camping atmosphere in this area.

Day 7
Hoarusib Riverbed
After breakfast, we drive up a side valley to the Giribes plateau. We cross through deep river sand and contrasting landscapes. Open grass or scree plains parallel almost deserted rugged mountain ranges. We arrive at the dry river oasis of the Hoarusib and pitch our tents under the shade of the tall camelthorn trees. In the evening, we unwind around the campfire. We need not be alarmed if we hear strange noises later in the night. It could be elephants roaming through our camp and shaking the pods from the camelthorn trees, as they enjoy eating these.

Our camp is situated on one of the highest hills in the area and is a botanical treasure trove with many endemic plant and shrub species populating the area. We may see gorgeous little klipspringers or mountain hares here. We enjoy the view with a drink at sunset.
