Day 1: Kigali

Arrival into Kigali International Airport; Meet & Greet Services, followed by transfer to your Kigali hotel –for check-in. Rest of the day/evening at leisure at your hotel, with lunch/dinner on own account.

Day 2: Akagera National Park

Breakfast at your hote, followed by check-out.

Morning, enjoy orientation tour of Kigali City, including a visit of the  Genocide Memorial Museum & the CAG Museum. (Campaign Against Genocide)

Lunch at the Hotel Mille Collines - featured in the film “Hotel Rwanda”, regarding the 1994 Rwanda Genocide Against the Tutsis.

Afternoon, depart Kigali and drive east – to the Akagera National Park (forming Rwanda’s eatern border with Tanzania). 150km, 2.5hrs   Overnight on Full-board basis.

Day 3: Akagera National Park

Breakfast at your lodge.

Spend a full day in the park, with wildlife game-viewing + picnic lunch.

Optional Activity: (provided by park management) Sunset Boat Ride (4:30-5:pm).

Day 4: Twin Lakes Burera & Ruhondo

Early morning, optional activity, such as a morning game-drive or morning boat ride.

Mid-morning, depart Akagera park and drive back to Kigali, for lunch.

Afternoon, head north - to the base of the Volcanoes Mountains, for overnight. 94km, 2.5hrs

Day 5: Twin Lakes Burera & Ruhondo

Morning, enjoy the ultimate adventure – Gorilla Trek in the volcanoes forest.

  • Trekking may take 02-06hours (or more), depending on the actual location of your gorilla family;
  • Upon sighting the gorillas, you will stay with them for a magical one-hour as they go about their daily life, feeding, playing, resting; raising their young.
  • Coming face to face with a giant silverback must truly be one of the greatest wildlife experiences on earth!   
  • The Ultimate Experience!!
  • A Walking Stick is provided at the start-point – to help steady your trekking;
  • Porters are also available – to help carry your water bottle/hand luggage and/or even hold hand in slippery/steep sections.

                    (this is at a minimal charge of US$10 per person, payable at the end)

After the trek, freshen up and lunch at the lodge.

Day 6: Kibuye

   
Morning, enjoy Golden Monkeys Trek -  trekking the only other member of the primate species, resident in the volcanoes forest.
After the trek, freshen up and lunch at the lodge, followed by check-out.
•    On the way out, make a brief stop-over visit of the Dian Fossey Museum & Foundation, in Musanze Town.
(No Entrance fee, but donations are welcome)
                            
Afternoon, depart the volcanoes region and head west-wards and then south-wards – to the central Lake Kivu town of Kibuye.
250km, 3.0hrs
Arrive at your lake-shore hotel in the late afternoon – for check-in and evening at leisure, with dinner included. Overnight on Full-board basis: 

Day 7: Nyungwe Forest National Park

Leisurely breakfast at the lodge.

Morning, enjoy a 02Hour Boat Excursion around the many islands that dot central Lake Kivu, with a chance to see the Swimming Cows, and an opportunity to hike the Napoleon (Bats) Island – home to a large colony of Bats.

Lunch at the lodge, after which you depart and continue your journey southwards, parallel to Lake Kivu shores – to the Nyungwe Forest region. 

130km, 2.5hrs 

Day 8: Nyungwe Forest National Park

Morning, emerse yourself into the tranquility and awe-inspiring Nyungwe Forest, in your search for the Chimpanzees.

Upon sighting them, you remain in their presence for only one hour, after which you embark on the Adventure Canopy Hike metal bridge suspended 90metres above ground and 160metres long, across a forest gorge - thus giving you a bird’s panoramic view across the forest canopy.

At the end of your hike, drive back to your hotel - for freshening up and lunch. Afternoon and evening at leisure at your hotel.

Day 9: End of Itinerary

Early breakfast after which you wave goodbye to the Nyungwe Forest region and depart northwards on your journey back to Kigali.  260km, 5.0hrs 

Enroute, visit Rwanda’s Cultural & Historic Towns of Butare & Nyanza, for their museums.

Enjoy picnic lunch along the way, provided by the hotel.

Late afternoon, complete your journey back to Kigali – with onward transfer to the Kigali International Airport, for your evening/night outbound flight.
