Welcome to the breathtaking Eastern Cape Province of South Africa!
We’re so excited to have you with us on this unforgettable journey. Our adventure begins less than an hour from here, but we’re in no rush—this trip is all about soaking in every incredible moment, big or small.
To ease into the magic that lies ahead, we’re starting off in a setting that’s nothing short of spectacular. Tucked away in a lush forest and just a few steps from a tranquil, unspoiled beach, this is the perfect place to slow down, breathe deeply, and let nature set the tone.
On your first day, we invite you to explore your immediate surroundings—where the forest meets the sea in the most enchanting way. Fancy a horseback ride along the beach? Or perhaps a canoeing adventure on the peaceful Kwelera River? The scenery is truly magical... but we’ll let you choose your own pace.
Later, we’ve arranged something truly special: an afternoon safari that rolls right into a golden sunset, ending with a delicious Boma Dinner under the stars. It’s the perfect way to begin this journey of discovery, connection, and unforgettable moments.
Let the adventure begin!

The next few days will take us deep into the heart of what the Xhosa people call “The Homeland”—a sacred place steeped in culture, tradition, and breathtaking beauty. During festive times, thousands of Xhosa families return here to reconnect, celebrate, and honour their roots. And now, it’s your turn to experience this incredible land for yourself.
We’ll be crossing the iconic Great Kei River using the famous Pontoon Ferry—a treasured piece of Wild Coast history! Once the only way to cross without a boat, the pontoon is an adventure in itself. On rare occasions, when nature has her way and conditions make it unsafe, we may take a slightly longer route—an extra 90km drive through rolling landscapes. But out here, every twist and turn is part of the journey. We embrace it all with open hearts—because every detour brings new discovery!
We’ll soon find ourselves walking in the footsteps of greatness—this is where the beloved Nelson Mandela began his life. And nothing can truly prepare you for the raw, powerful authenticity of Africa that awaits.
Picture this: endless rolling green hills that seem to touch the sky, secret footpaths that lead to unimaginable views, and a rhythm of life so simple, yet so deeply moving. Our home for the next three nights is perched high above White Clay Beach in Coffee Bay, a spot that feels like it was made just for dreamers and wanderers.
We’ll visit the jaw-dropping natural wonder of Hole in the Wall, hike across those rolling hills (if you feel called to), feast on the freshest seafood, and—most importantly—connect with the vibrant people who live here. This is where the heart of the Wild Coast truly comes alive.
Here, we’ll discover the luxury of simplicity, the richness of real life, and the wild beauty that gives this coast its name.
Get ready—this is Africa in its purest, most powerful form.

Day notes
As we leave the Wild Coast behind, our path curves inland toward the heart of the Karoo—toward a place where ancient earth tells stories etched in rock. Today’s journey is long, yes, but the changing landscape becomes a silent narrator, unfolding a tale of contrast and transformation.
The lush greens and ocean blues slowly give way to golden grasslands, wide open plains, and distant, rugged mountain silhouettes. Villages become sparser, the sky stretches endlessly, and time seems to loosen its grip. There’s something about this stretch of road—it speaks of resilience, of old stories passed down through wind and weather, long before any of us arrived.
Eventually, nestled in the embrace of a fertile valley, we reach Graaff-Reinet, one of South Africa’s oldest and most charming historic towns. Known as the “Gem of the Karoo,” this place feels like stepping into another era. Elegant Cape Dutch architecture lines quiet streets, and the town’s rhythm invites you to slow down and wander on foot—no maps needed, just curiosity.
But the true wonder still lies ahead.
In the late afternoon, we venture into Camdeboo National Park, where the Earth unveils one of its most spellbinding secrets: the Valley of Desolation. Here, towering dolerite columns—formed by ancient volcanic forces over 100 million years ago—rise dramatically from the arid plains below, sculpted by time, wind, and rain. It’s a geological masterpiece, a cathedral of stone standing in silent awe beneath the vast Karoo sky.
As the sun begins to dip, the light dances across the cliffs, casting long shadows and igniting the rocks in shades of gold, rust, and crimson. It’s not just a view; it’s a moment—quiet, humbling, and unforgettable.
This is more than a stopover. It’s a chapter in the journey that reminds us of the age of the Earth beneath our feet, the stories it holds, and the privilege of walking among its wonders.
