Day 1: Sorong

Day 1 | Jakarta to Raja Ampat 

You will meet the rest of the group at the airport for your early morning flight to Sorong, the gateway to the Raja Ampat Archipelago.

Once you land in Sorong, you will be met at the airport and transferred to the privately chartered Fenides, your home for the next 11 nights.

Day 2: Batanta Island

Day 2 | Batanta Island

You will start your journey snorkelling the incredible reefs found along the island of Batanta.

Here you'll see beautiful hard and soft coral gardens with lots of colourful fish, which may include fusiliers, oriental sweetlips, travellies, bannerfish, rainbow runners, groupers and reef sharks.

The quiet lagoons of Batanta offer magical sunrise bidding opportunities for all that are interested.

Day 3: Mansuar Island

Day 3 | Mansuar and Kri Islands

You will explore the reefs around Mansuar and Kri islands.  The waters off Kri's cape are frequented by a huge variety of fish.  Try to see if you can find a giant grouper hiding along the undersea walls.

Manta rays may congregate at a nearby cleaning station, with gold-banded fusiliers and other fish escorting them.  You may even spot hawksbill sea turtles, a school of humphead parrotfish, or black tip reef sharks.

Days 4 - 5: Waigeo

Days 4-5 | Waigeo Island

Waigeo Island is one of the largest islands in Raja Ampat.  The island has the greatest number of land and fresh-water bird species in the archipelago.

Early morning boat rides will allow you to look for parrots, hornbills, kingfishers and red-throated myzomelas.  While snorkelling, you may come across Napolean wrasses, angelfish, and butterflyfish swimming among swaying sea anemones and colourful coral heads, or the rare, endemic epaulette walking shark hiding under a boulder coral.

Days 6 - 7: Waigeo

Days 6-7 | Alyui Bay

The calm nutrient waters of Alyui Bay are an excellent place to see many species of nudibranchs along the soft coral rich walls. Mantis shrimp and tasselled wobbegong sharks are also often found in abundance here.  

You will have one full day devoted to exploring the calm lagoon waters peppered with clear water mangroves where you can see upside down jellyfish in the sandy bottom, and archerfish swimming among the mangrove tree roots.  

Alyui Bay is also an excellent place to try night snorkelling, when all different types of creatures emerge.  Look for a sleeping cuttlefish or active epaulette "walking" sharks.

Days 8 - 9: Raja Ampat Islands

Days 8-9 | Wayag Bay

For the next two days, you'll get to enjoy Wayag Bay.  The snorkel sites here offer interesting underwater topography with pinnacles and boulders to explore and a chance to see larger, pelagic fish species.

Wayag is a lush and rocky island with beautiful sites at the edge of some of the most scenic limestone cliffs.  Snorkel among overhangs and boulders decorated with soft corals and colurful anthias.

While you're here you'll also hike up to a scenic overlook allowing for some iconic views.

Day 10: Gam Island

Day 10 | Gam Island

While snorkelling Gam's clear waters, keep an eye out for oriental sweetlips, coral trout, glassfish, and orange and purple anthias that inhabit the reefs and mangroves of this area.

Weather permitting, you can take an exciting drift snorkel, floating with the currents through the Kadui Strait between Waigeo and Gam.  The Java cownose ray feeds in this passage.

For those interested in birding, you'll start the day with an early morning hike on Gam Island.  Gam is home to the magnificent and endemic, red bird-of-paradise.  A short hike will put you at a "lek" where you should have a great opportunity to see a group of male birds display their feathers to attract females during breeding season.

Day 11: Raja Ampat Islands, Sorong

Day 11 | Penemu Island

Your last day will be a treat.  Here you can snorkel the calm waters between Penemu's mushroom shaped rock islands, which harbour hard and soft corals, giant clams, and extensive coral gardens filled with vibrantly coloured fish and nudibranchs.

This evening, you will set sail to go back to Sorong keeping an eye out for the whales that frequent this area.

Day 12: End of Itinerary

Day 12 | Departure

At the conclusion of the trip, you will disembark in Sorong, West Papua and transfer to the airport in time for your flight back to Jakarta or Bali.
