Day 1: Kigali

  • Upon arrival at Kigali International Airport, you will be met by our representative outside the customs and immigration hall who will introduce you to your driver-guide. Receive a brief about the tour and then transfer to our Kigali city for check in.
  • Transit Time: +/- 15 minutes’ drive

Day 2: Twin Lakes Burera & Ruhondo

  • After breakfast, city tour of Kigali including Genocide Memorial. The Kigali Memorial exists as a permanent monument and remembrance to victims of the genocide of 1994. It takes you deep into this topic of international importance, with far-reaching significance.
  • You will also have guided village tours conducted by the locals which offer you the intimate cultural experience of Nyamirambo as you traverse the local community, the bustling local markets and the lively sound of music that loudly booms from the copious music studios.
  • We will break for a relaxed lunch at Hotel des Mille Collines, known for its superb views over Kigali and its historical importance in providing a safe haven for up to 2000 people during the genocide.
  • After lunch, we head to Volcanoes National Park.

Day 3: Twin Lakes Burera & Ruhondo

  • Today our day begins with an early – 06:30 am – drive to the Volcanoes National Park offices for Gorilla Trekking.
  • After a briefing by rangers at the office, we begin our walk at 8:00 am. Volcanoes National Park protects the steep slopes of this magnificent mountain range and is the home of the rare Mountain Gorillas. It is a rich mosaic of montane ecosystems, embracing evergreen and bamboo forests, open grassland, swamp, and heath, But of course, the high point of our day will be spending an hour with gorillas as they go about their daily life, feeding, playing, resting, and raising their young. They are remarkably peaceful animals despite their size and appearance.
  • There after you will visit the Gorilla guardians village to learn about the local people’s ways of living and immerse in their culture. These were ex-poachers that have been sensitized about the benefits of conservation.

Day 4: Twin Lakes Burera & Ruhondo

  • I always recommend two gorilla treks to really get the benefit of the experience and enjoy them for longer. 
  • Day will be much like the day before and the opportunity to engage more in the area. Depending on likes can arrange something in the afternoon to experience.

Day 5: End of Itinerary

  • This morning after breakfast, you will be transferred to the park headquarters for briefing about Golden Monkey tracking in Volcanoes National Park.
  • After the briefing is done on the do's and don’ts you will be escorted by the ranger guide into the forest searching for then golden monkeys. Trekking to see the Golden Monkeys is another highlight of visiting Volcanoes National Park. The Monkeys are playful and inquisitive and often spend their time leaping from Bamboo branches or frolicking on the forest floors towards the base of the Volcanoes and have overcome their initial shyness to accept their daily visit by researchers and tourists.
  • Thereafter, depart back to Kigali International Airport for your flight back home.
  • Transit time: +/- 3 hours
