HIKE AND FULL DAY VISIT LOCAL “IK” TRIBE

• Early breakfast
• Full day excursion to visit the Aunthetic local IK people.
• The IK are one of Africa’s most remote and interesting tribes, living on top of Mount Morungole in Northern Kidepo. You will have an early departure from the lodge and start with a walk through a flat valley surrounded by smaller villages, cattle herds and pastures.  Then a climb of the mountain (with experienced ranger) because the IK people live on the mountain. After your picnic lunch you will visit the village and enjoy the scenery, the people, the hospitality, the houses it is like a different world up in the mountains of the Karamojong country. You will see the daily lifestyle and listen to the stories and traditions by which this tribe has been living for hundreds of years.

• Pick up and transfer to your lodge

  • Optional: Visit the Bwindi development network and learn how they work together with the local community to protect the Bwindi forest and its wildlife. One of the main activities is the anti - poaching project; meet formal poachers and hear their stories.

WALK THROUGH BWINDI FOREST WITH LOCAL RANGER TO NKURINGO REGION

  • Optional: experience your first gorilla trekking in this region (additional cost)
• Walk through the forest with local ranger and porter to the southern sector; This trek requires a reasonable degree of fitness as well as a strong pair of walking shoes. (you bring a daypack, your driver/guide will take care of the main luggage.)
• This is a guided walk that leads to clear waterfalls, profusion of trees, colorful birds and butterflies. You have a chance to see primates in the forest.

GORILLA TREKKING AND MEET THE SILVERBACK GORILLA

• Early morning breakfast
• Transfer to starting point of your trekking: Meet your ranger and have a briefing to prepare for your trekking
• The trek can take between half an hour to six hours looking for Gorillas
• Gorilla trekking: hike with local park ranger to find and see the Mountain Gorillas and spend 1 hour with them.
• The local operator will offer a free porter per person who will assist you with your daypack, and give you hand when the path is slippery, steep or irregular. The porters are from the local community and registered by the Uganda Wildlife Authority, in this way we also support the local community.
  • Optional (extra cost): gorilla habituation; this gives you (maximum 4 clients) the chance to join local researchers, trackers and ranger and learn from the way they trace the gorilla family, the behavior and conservancy treatment in the park. After tracing the gorilla, you may spend a longer time with the gorilla’s (2 – 2,5 hours).
