Day 2: Lima

There are countless ways to experience a city, but one of the most rewarding and engaging is through its food. This is especially true in Lima, where our Huarique adventure will make you feel like a local. The word Huarique is said to come from the Quechua words 'Wa' (hidden) and 'Rike,' derived from 'Rocqro' (stew). Huariques are small, often family-run taverns or eateries, sometimes even part of someone’s home, where the owners themselves serve as both cooks and hosts. Here, you’ll discover traditional Peruvian family recipes passed down through generations.

An expert food guide will accompany you, sharing her personal favorites and offering insight into contemporary Peruvian life through the lens of its food and culture.

Depending on your interests, you may also visit unique local shops featuring specialty Peruvian products, such as chocolate, coffee, spices, salt, and folk art. You’ll wander through the charming district of Barranco for a delightful exploration of the city’s hidden Huariques.

Then, you will participate in a private chocolate and coffee tasting class. Thanks to an enormous variety of geographies and climates, Peru is the perfect place to grow coffee. It has taken some time for local producers and traders to realize this, but finally we have achieved a great quality product that is earing excellent reputation worldwide. During 1hr you will take the time to learn about this and you will be introduced to the Peruvian Chocolate.

In the afternoon, we will visit the Larco Herrera Museum. Founded in 1926, the museum offers exceptional chronological galleries that provide a comprehensive overview of 4,000 years of Peruvian pre-Columbian history. Housed in an 18th-century vice-royal mansion built atop a 7th-century pre-Columbian pyramid, the museum is surrounded by beautiful gardens. It features the finest collection of ancient Peruvian gold and silver, along with a world-renowned ceramic collection. If you are spending time in Lima, this visit is not to be missed.

Larco is one of the few museums in the world where visitors can explore the storage area, which holds 45,000 classified archaeological artifacts. Its masterpieces are recognized as global icons of pre-Columbian art, having been exhibited in leading museums around the world.

For tonight we would be happy to make a dinner reservation at one of the TOP restaurants. A private transportation will take you to the restaurant (consumption not included).

Day 4: The Sacred Valley of the Incas

In the heights of the Sacred Valley there are humble and hospitable people who maintain traditions that have survived for thousands of years. They live in community and know how to read the signs of nature. They are sensitive people who own mysterious textile iconography, have unique flora and fauna, prepare exotic cuisine with delicate products, and share a common past linked to pre-Hispanic cultures.

This morning your guide and transport take you visit a Quechua Andean Community. After a warm welcome, we will spend a bit of time meeting the community members and learning about some of their traditional activities. Then you will either drive or hike to Moray, a site which is neither the vestige of a city or a fortress, but an earthwork that served as an experimental agricultural station for the development of different strain of crops. This was possible thanks to the discovery of a fascinating phenomenon: the climates of many different ecological zones were present in one single site.

Today´s lunch will be at a charming country restaurant in Maras.

After lunch you can choose to either start walking or driving towards Maras’s salt mines. The Maras "salt works", also called "salt mines", are constituted by about 3000 small pools with an average area of 5 m² (53.8 ft²) each, constructed in a slope of the mountain. People fill up or "irrigate" the pools during the dry season every three days, with salty water emanating from a natural spring located on the top of the complex, so that when water evaporates the salt contained in it will slowly solidify. That process will be carried out approximately for one month until a considerable volume of solid salt is obtained. Then you can continue walking down to the Valley or drive back to your hotel.

Dinner is not included but you may enjoy one of the restaurants in Urubamba – we would be happy to assist you with a dinner reservation for you (Transport from/to hotel is included)

Our train will stop in the jungle for us to venture onto the Inca Trail with our expert guide. After crossing the Vilcanota River you will visit the preserved Inca site of “Chachabamba” and then follow the trail to an impressive archaeological site called "Wiñay Wayna." Observing the masterful Inca engineering used to create these structures is a highlight of the trail and sure to amaze you. The site features a series of Inca baths that help pressurize water for agricultural irrigation and the city’s food production. Before continuing towards "Inti Punku" you can stop for lunch and let the first views of Machu Picchu astound you. A quick descent along the wide royal Inca road takes you to Machu Picchu´s gate. Day 7: Cusco

Although Machu Picchu is to be considered the symbol of the Inca Empire, reputation earned thanks to its spectacular location and architecture, the true Inca jewel is Cusco, ancient capital of the Empire, where the Incas did rule and were considered god-kings. In addition, the arrival of the Spanish Conquerors and the Catholic religion brought another huge architectural transformation, resulting in a completely unique City. Your guide meets you at your hotel and takes you visit the most representative sites of the City, which gives you the chance to appreciate, in a very specific way, the complexity of the Peruvian history. You will visit the 16th Century Cathedral and the rich Colonial treasures it houses; you will also visit the Santo Domingo Convent, once the Sacred temple of the Sun, also known as the Qoricancha, which inner walls were, according to the chronicles, once completely covered in gold, housing natural-size gold statues. Walk along the San Blas traditional neighborhood, which narrow streets resemble the charm of ancient towns in southern Spain.

After enjoying some free time for lunch (not included), your transport picks you up to go visit the nearby archaeological Incan sites, and Sacsayhuaman among them. On the way you find the opportunity to watch Cusco from above, clearly appreciating the original Inca design of the City, over which the Colonial and Modern Cusco have been built. You visit Sacsayhuaman, commonly called "fortress", because of the huge stone blocks that make up its walls, but really not designed for the purpose of being a fortress, but an important worship area. We have time to also visit the Quenco, Puca Pucara and Tambomachay archaeological sites.

Dinner is not included but you may enjoy one of the restaurants in Cusco, Cicciolina Restaurant – we would be happy to assist you with a dinner reservation for you (Transport from/to hotel is included)
