This morning you are transferred to Arusha Airport for your flight to the Ngorongoro Highlands. You fly by scheduled light air transfer, a flight of just under 30 minutes.

On landing, you are met and transferred to Entamanu Camp, a drive of about 2 hours, arriving in time for an early lunch. Entamanu is perched on the remote north-western rim of the Ngorongoro Crater.

Ngorongoro offers fantastic game viewing at very close quarters.

The Ngorongoro Conservation Area (NCA) is an extensive highland area along the eastern arm of the Rift Valley, with the world-renowned Ngorongoro Crater as its focal point. It is not a national park in the strict sense of the word, but the NCA was established to conserve wildlife and other natural resources. It also safeguards the interests of indigenous people and promotes tourism. Thus, guests on safari have the unique experience of seeing Maasai herdsmen whose cattle graze side by side with the tremendous variety of wildlife found in the area.

Unmatched for its natural variety, there are few places on earth where such a tremendous diversity of landscapes exist inside a region this size. Apart from its wildlife riches, the NCA is also of great archaeological importance, with the remains of some of mankind’s earliest ancestors discovered in the area. The largest intact caldera in the world, the Ngorongoro Crater shelters one of the most beautiful wildlife havens anywhere. A permanent population of more than 30 000 animals inhabit a mere 260 km² (100 square miles) in the 600 m (2 000 ft) deep crater, making this one of the few places in Africa where guests stand a great chance of seeing the entire Big Five in the course of a single game drive.

After lunch, you set off on an afternoon guided crater rim walk.

Overnight: Entamanu Camp - All meals, selected beverages and scheduled activities

Day 3: Ngorongoro Crater

Today you will descend the 2,000 feet from the lush rain forest to the open savannah and the Lerai acacia woodland on the crater floor.

You enjoy some exceptional game viewing and a picnic lunch brunch before returning to camp mid afternoon.

On arrival at the strip you are met by your guide and transferred to Serengeti Safari Camp where you will spend the next two nights.

The Camp is located on the edge of the Ndutu woodlands in the Serengeti National Park. The Serengeti is home to the highest density of game in Africa, and is unequalled for its natural beauty and scientific value. You will partake in daily game-drives exploring the wide-open spaces of the Serengeti, visiting different habitats and following the ebb and flow of life in its seasonal movements.

Day 5: Northern Serengeti

You can entirely dictate the pace of your day, in discussion with your guide. Search for lion or cheetah along the edge of the woodland or head out into the vast plains to get in amongst the widlebeest migration, along with herds of zebra and gazelle at every turn.

You'll be surprised by the fabulous variety of bird life in this area as well as the level of predator activity.

On landing at Kogatende airstrip, you are met by your guide and transferred to Lamai Serengeti.

Too often ignored at this time of year, this area is a gem in the green season. Sensitively developed within the rocks, Lamai Serengeti has 12 rooms combining canvas, rock and thatch; each fabulously comfortable room enjoys one of the best views in the whole Serengeti.

Overnight: Lamai Serengeti - Full board basis, selected beverages, guided game walk, twice daily game drives on a shared vehicle basis and laundry

Days 7 - 8: Northern Serengeti

Dominated by the Mara River, full of crocs and hippos, this area is great for lion prides as well as big herds of buffalo, elephant, cheetah as well as leopard in the many kopjes that make this landscape so distinctive. Also look out for the small Oribi which thrives in this area but is otherwise extremely scarce in northern Tanzania generally.

As well as quiet game drives and walking safaris between camp and the Mara river itself you also have the chance to cross the river into the Lamai wedge itself, which runs north to the Kenya border.

After the rains, the short grass plains in this area attract concentrations of plains game from Kenya's Maasai Mara to rival even the southern Serengeti at times - and with them, a great chance of seeing lion, hyena and cheetah.
