Welcome to Salzburg!

Day 2: Salzburg

Schloss Hellbrunn & Hallein

After a good night’s sleep and a hearty breakfast, it’s time to get on your bike! Start with an easy ride to the baroque Hellbrunn Palace. Built for the Prince-Archbishop of Salzburg, Markus Sittikus von Hohenems in the 17th century, the palace is famous for its fountains and “water games” that attract thousands of visitors every year.
Continue along the Salzach to Hallein, a picturesque town with narrow streets, pretty houses and a history going back to the Celts. Spend time at leisure in Hallein. With several museums and sights of interest, there is enough to do and see for everyone. 

Return to your hotel by bike, or private transfer.  Dinner is served in your hotel in the evening.

Day 3: Salzburg

Salzach - Thalgau - Mondsee 

Ride along the river Salzach, before continuing on the disused Ischler train route to Eugendorf. Until 1957 the narrow-gauge railway connected the spa town of Bad Ischl with Salzburg. The bike path leads you across lush meadows to Thalgau and to the foot of the “Dragon’s Wall”, an impressive rock massif that extends into the Mondsee. Continue into the centre of town with the same name. Perhaps you recognize the Basilica where Maria and Georg von Trapp got married in the movie Sound of Music? 

Enjoy lunch in Mondsee, and spend some time at leisure before returning to Salzburg and your hotel by private transfer.

Day 4: Salzburg

Day 4: Alpendorf & St.Johann im Pongau 

Starting in Alpendorf/Pongau ride down the mountain towards the Tauern bike path. From the town of Schwarzach it continues along the “Putzengraben” on a little-used road through the forest. Highly recommended on hot summer days! At the crossroads, the route continues left towards Goldegg Weng. Once you hit Goldegg Weng, you have a few options: Turn right to Meislsteinalm (an ascent of ca 300 m), or turn left towards Goldegg. Once you hit Goldegg, ride past the lake and continue back towards the valley to Schwarzach and back up to Alpendorf.

Day 5: Salzburg

Salzburg to Berchtesgaden

Set out on the scenic stretch from Salzburg to Berchtesgaden along the Mozart bike path. Ride through Gröding, and continue across the German border to the charming town of Marktschellenberg. Famous for its 17th century ball mill, the town once produced stone marbles, which were exported to the East- and West Indies. It is the oldest mill of its kind in Germany, and is located next to the dramatic Almbachklamm-canyon.
Continue to Berchtesgaden, and spend some time at leisure before returning to your hotel either by bike or private transfer. It is also possible to combine the visit in Berchtesgaden with the romantic Königssee or with a visit to the famous Eagle’s Nest.
