Sangaiwe Tented Lodge is situated across forty acres of hillside wooded with beautiful trees, including indigenous African hardwoods. The local villagers, who’ve entrusted the land to us, have kept it untouched for posterity. Building was done in a fashion to minimize disruption to the environment. The sun heats the hot water for the entire lodge and we’ve landscaped with mostly indigenous plants to minimize water usage.

On arrival you’ll be met at our “boma” where you can re-group with a welcome drink and refreshing towel before walking up the hill to reception. Our large common area comprises reception, bar, dining, lounge and large outdoor viewing patio. Take a dip in our beautiful swimming pool with a view. Wildlife wanders in and out of the lodge grounds and it’s possible to climb the hill behind the lodge or take a guided nature walk.

The attentive staff is always on hand to assist. The Sangaiwe Gate to Tarangire National Park is less than a kilometre down the road.

Snorkeling at Mnemba

Mnemba Island is an atoll set within a marine reserve just off Sunshine Marine Lodge. It is comprised of four distinct habitats which are home to a diverse array of Indian Ocean wildlife. Snorkeling at Mnemba is stunning, on the inside it’s similar to swimming in a giant aquarium and the outside offers excellent wall/drift dives. The island itself is a breeding ground for turtles and they are often seen gliding by with dolphins, large schools of fish, whale sharks and humpback whales (when in season). No one can step on the island, because it is a private one.

Diving in Paradise

The tropical fish capital of East Africa, Mnemba is an island just off Sunshine Marine Lodge. It has stunning aquarium-like conditions on the west side, and good wall diving on the east side of the island. Divers are constantly surprised by the rich and diverse marine life, regularly seeing turtles, which breed on the island, dolphins and large schools of fish. Seasonally, whale sharks and humpback whales glide past, just a few meters from the divers. Drift diving here is a year-round event, with great diving to be found under almost all weather conditions, and visibility of 15 to 35

meters is the norm.

Ngalawa Sailing & Fish Market

One of the most common boats seen on The Swahili Coast, the Ngalawa is an unmistakable and charming traditional boat. The raised bow and higher sides to the hull allow for the Ngalawa to reach out into the open seas. Ngalawa’s are commonly used for fishing, they are also a common mode of travelling along the coast. An ngalawa hull is generally constructed from the trunk of a mature mango tree.

On this excursion you will sail on the inside of the reef, hugging the coastline. Before or after the Ngalawa sail there will be the visit at Kigomani fish market one of the most uncontaminated and conservative little society in the whole Zanzibar

Nungwi or Kendwa

Nungwi Beach is located on the northern tip of Zanzibar. It is famous for its fine white sand and unbelievably clear turquoise water. Visit to the village of with its historic lighthouse and the

Nungwi boat yard where traditional craftsman build beautiful wooden dhows using hand tools only. Near the lighthouse is the Mnarani Aquarium - Sea Turtle Conservation Area where injured and baby turtles are raised until they are well enough to be released.

Kendwa Beach is fine white sand in some places and ground shells in others, the water is an incredible turquoise blue, and watching the local boat traffic off the coast at sunset is truly spectacular.
