Day 1: Namaqualand

Every year once the winter rains have fallen, people flock to Namaqualand to marvel and experience a miracle of nature. The normally arid semi desert area is transformed from a dusty, dry barren landscape into a tapestry of colours you will never forget!

The change is unbelievable and perhaps nowhere else will one find such a dramatic, exciting and exuberant awakening to Spring than in the Namaqualand area. The Namaqualand spring flowers are justifiably world famous and in a good year this botanical masterpiece puts on a show unrivalled anywhere on Earth!

Pick-up can be arranged from Stellenbosch, V&A City Lodge Cape Town as well as Cape Town International Airport.

We travel the N7 on our way to Citrusdal.  Piekenierskloof Pass is the “gateway” or the “window” to the north and the flower show starts. We will enjoy some tea/coffee and something sweet in Piekenierskloof as well! We will enjoy beautiful flower patches between Citrusdal and Clanwilliam. Our lunch will be in Clanwilliam. If still on, we will visit the flower show in the historical church of Clanwilliam, visit the Ramskop Garden just outside Clanwilliam.

We then head off to the SPECTACULAR “Biedouw Valley” with its “blankets” of flower fields…. certainly the highlight of the day. This is a full program before heading off to Van Ryhnsdorp where we will spend the night.

Day 2: Namaqualand

After a typical farmer’s breakfast, our flower adventure continues! We visit the succulent nursery in Van Rhynsdorp before heading up the spectacular Van Rhyns Pass to Nieuwoudtville.  We spend the rest of the morning exploring the flower farm Matjiesfontein. This is an amazing flower experience and definitely the highlight of the day. Lunch is a relaxed rustic affair on either Matjiesfontein or the historic Papkuilsfontein farm. We then finish off the day with a flower drive before making our way back to Van Rhynsdorp.

Day 3: End of Itinerary

Today we have another early start as this amazing flower journey comes to an end late afternoon. We spend our day exploring the flowers of the West Coast and the West Coast National Park.

We travel back via Clanwilliam, Leopoldtsville, Dwarskersbos, then from Velddrif to Langebaan! We will also enjoy the natural beauty of the Langebaan lagoon. The visit to Postberg Flower Reserve will be the highlight of the day as this part of the park is only open 2 months of the year! We will also enjoy a packed light lunch in the reserve.

We leave the park in the late afternoon and make our way to Cape Town, where we will arrive between 5:30 – 6pm as our flower journey comes to an end!
