Day 1: You will be met on arrival in Cape Town.and assisted with the collection of your air-conditioned rental car. Drive to your hotel located close to the popular “V&A Waterfront”. For transferred option - you will be met at the airport and transferred to your hotel.
Day 2: Your hotel is ideally located, both to enjoy Cape Town’s attractions as well as the golf courses in the area. Today we will book tee-off time for 18 holes of golf at Royal Cape Golf Course, the oldest and most exclusive golf club in South Africa. It was founded in 1885 and received the attribute "Royal" in 1910 by the Duke of Connaught, who represented King George V at the opening of the first parliament of the South African Union. The Royal Cape Golf Course is famous for its superb scenic beauty, but also known to be windy and difficult to play. This is a true championship course, having hosted the South African Open eleven times and the South African Amateur Championships eight times,it has recently undergone a reconstruction programme of all eighteen greens strictly to the specifications of the United States Golf Association. Return to your hotel. Balance of day at leisure.
Day 3 - 5: We will book tee-off times at the following golf courses:
Rondebosch Golf Course: Situated ten minutes from Cape Town's city centre, with magnificent views of Devil’s Peak and Table Mountain, the course is a popular choice for local and foreign visitors. The course remains a challenge to the serious golfer, but is user friendly for the less experienced. The river which winds through the course provides challenges to the players and is home to a variety of bird life; from cormorants and kingfishers to wild ducks and egrets.
Clovelly Golf Course: This course is known to be one of the most beautiful courses in the Cape region. The course lies between Fish Hoek and Kalk Bay on the Cape Peninsula in the picturesque Clovelly valley in scenic nature. The softly undulating grounds are bordered in the north by mountains covered in Fynbos and by sand dunes in the south. In some places one has a view of the Indian Ocean. The clubhouse above the course is generously laid out and has a colonial flair.The fairways of the Clovelly Golf Course are narrow and require precision. The 9th hole is perceived as the most difficult Par 5 in the entire Cape.
You also have one day without pre-booked golf, you may decide to relax at your beautiful hotel; book an optional sightseeing tour or possibly book another round of golf.
Today, drive (or be transferred) towards the popular holiday- and fishing village of Hermanus. This is considered to be the best “land-based” location for Whale Watching in the world (June – end November). Your hotel is located in central Hermanus, only metres from the cliff-path used for whale-watching.
The recently upgraded and re-designed Hermanus Golf Course is a challenging 27 hole course and is rated by Golf Digest in the top 50 courses in SA. The new course design is visually stimulating by making full use of the scenic mountain and coastal landscapes. This classic country course underwent a recent extensive refurbishment with the addition of nine superb new holes, taking golfing in Hermanus to new levels.
The gorgeous sea views, mountainous surroundings, charming hospitality and former tradition remain. What was considered a gentle layout has been replaced with modern classically designed holes, adding a dynamic visual and challenging aspect to the course. Peter Matkovich, South Africa’s foremost golf course architect, incorporated the scenic environment to maximum potential. The new definition and shape given to the holes as well as the water and rock features are particularly striking. Considerably lengthened with superlative new greens and bunkering, and dedicated and professional management, Hermanus Golf Club presents a great challenge and experience.
Drive (or transfer) a short distance from Hermanus and arrive at at Arabella’s famous golf course. The Arabella golf course is ranked by Compleat Golfer magazine as the number one golf course in the Western Cape. It is also featured in Golf Digest’s USA’s Top 60 courses outside
of America in 2007.Designed and built in 1999 by celebrated South African golf course architect Peter Matkovich, this classic parkland course has spectacular views across the Bot River lagoon and across the Kogelberg mountain range. The pristine fairways are kikuyu, while the greens, which frequently receive high praise from professionals in the game, are Dominant Bent. The golf course has been refined in the past six years with the addition of several bunkers and the revamp of the par-four 6th hold in order to rid it of its blind tee shot. In the afternoon, drive to the Cape Winelands area, and your lodge located on De Zalze Golf Course.
At the foot of the Helderberg Mountains, in the heart of the Stellenbosch winelands, lies one of the most picturesque courses in the Western Cape: De Zalze Golf Course situated within the De Zalze Winelands Golf Estate was designed by Peter Matkovich who has made the most of the stunning setting and created a course that places a premium on accuracy. The course has an excellent mix of parkland holes with its main defences coming from the water features on several of the holes as well as the oak tree lined Blaauwklippen River which winds its way through the golf estate and comes into play at various intervals. The De Zalze Golf Course has already hosted a number of championship events. In the afternoon, explore the Cape Winelands on your own. We recommend you visit one or more of the many excellent wine estates in the area. Ernie Els’ wine estate is one of these; it is a beautiful estate.
Today, golf at another of South Africa’s best golf courses: Pearl Valley Golf Course. Officially opened at the beginning of November, 2003 by Jack Nicklaus and South African great, Gary Player, Pearl Valley Golf Estates was named ‘best golf course of the year’ by Golf Digest magazine in 2005 and in 2009 and is currently ranked the ‘3rd best course in South Africa’ by the magazine. The total length of course is 6801 metres from the Championship tees, whereas the members’ length ranges from 4685 to 5876 metres. Bunkers on Nicklaus’ signature courses are renowned for being shallow, long and relatively undaunting. Every hole is played against the spectacular backdrop of the mountains surrounding the estate and all are challenging due to the strategically set bunkers and fast greens. The prevailing winds throughout the area have also been taken into consideration with the course design; the winter being north-westerly and the summer wind from a south-easterly direction. All par 3s and par 5s play in different directions, ensuring that the same conditions are seldom experienced during a round.
