Today you drive to Lake Nakuru National Park, where you arrive around noon. You check in and have lunch. In the afternoon you go on a game drive. Lake Nakuru National Park was established to protect the huge flamingo population. Waterbuck, bohor reedbuck and zebra graze on the shore. Lake Nakuru is home to the black and white rhino. In 1987, due to the devastating effects of poaching, there were only two black rhinos left. By establishing a rhino sanctuary within the park and cross-breeding with a breeder from Laikipia, the Kenya Wildlife Service (K.W.S.) was able to successfully breed the rhinos in the park. Game viewing is relatively easy. Buffalo, leopards, lions, Rothschild's giraffes, and colobus, among others, can be encountered in the forest.
Today we continue the safari to Maasai Mara Game Reserve, so named to mean the “spotted plains” in the Maasai language. This is home to the greatest concentration of large mammals and is widely recognized as Africa’s ultimate wildlife reserve. The park is the northern extension of the vast Serengeti-Mara ecosystem, famous for its annual migration of wildebeest. Transfer to the lodge with a game driver en route and after check-in enjoy a hot lunch. Later in the evening enjoy a game-viewing drive in this spectacular place of breathtaking sceneries, never-ending plains and the most abundant variety of wildlife remaining anywhere in the world. The landscape is made up of rolling savannahs dotted with patchy shrubs and bush thickets.
During your stay, you have the opportunity to explore this great reserve in depth. You may see elephants, giraffes, prides of lions, and thousands of impalas, topi, grants and Thomson's gazelle. Birds are prolific including immigrants, 450 bird species have been recorded among them 57 birds of prey. The Mara is the scene of the annual migration of millions of wildebeest up from the Serengeti plains in search of water and grasses. While in Mara, you will have the option to float above the Mara-Serengeti ecosystem on board a hot air balloon followed by a gourmet champagne breakfast. You can also visit a Maasai tribal village and enjoy entertainment with Maasai dancers (Options at an extra cost).
After breakfast and check-out, drive to Lake Naivasha which is the first of the Rift Valley Lakes and is set at the foot of Mount Longonot, on the north side. It was on Lake Naivasha that East Africa’s first air passengers used to land in the flying boats of Imperial Airways. After lunch at the camp take an afternoon boat ride for a chance to identify the many different birds in the area.
In the early morning drive to Amboseli National Park. The Park is famous for its big game and scenic beauty with the landscape dominated by Mt. Kilimanjaro. It offers an interesting contrast with its dry and dusty appearance, which can be attributed to the volcanic ash that came out of Mt Kilimanjaro when it last erupted. In spite of the appearance, there is a continuous supply of water that gets filtered through volcanic rocks from Kilimanjaro's melted snow. These streams flow underground, creating lush green areas, and converge at two clear water springs in the park.
Spend a further day in the park on morning and afternoon game drives. Wildlife here includes the zebra, wildebeest, giraffe, impala, caracal and serval cat, lion, leopard, cheetah, and buffalo among others. There are also over 400 species of birds, including the bee-eater, kingfisher, African fish eagle, martial eagle and pygmy falcon. Visitors mainly come to watch the huge herds of elephants. The bull elephants have some of the largest tusks in all of Kenya. Visitors can also enjoy excellent views of Mt Kilimanjaro and Meru.
Wake up to an early breakfast before departing for the drive to Nairobi with drop off at the airport for an outbound flight or beach holiday.
