Day 1: Stone Town

DAY 1:

Upon arrival at the airport, you will be met by a representative and transferred to Kisiwa House.

You have some time to check in and settle in, before collection at 3pm for your prison tour

PRISON TOUR: About 20 minutes by boat from Forodhani area lies Changuu, also known as Prison Island. This name is misleading; although the once impressive building, erected in 1893 by Lloyd Mathews under orders of the British administrators, was originally intended as a prison, it never housed criminals. The island was, however, reportedly used by an Arab slave trader to contain the feistier and more troublesome slaves he had brought from the African mainland. Later it became a quarantine station - but mostly it was a conveniently located leisure spot for the wealthier townsfolk. The old prison's crumbling cells can still be seen today; they provide shelter for the resident peacocks and the giant Aldabra tortoises that the British governor of Seychelles sent as a gift to Sultan Khalifa bin Haroub in 1919. Some of them are almost a hundred years old. The island is also an ideal place for sunbathing, swimming, snorkelling, or simply relaxing on the white sandy beach.

Depending on the tides, start latest at 3 pm (tour duration approx 2 to 3 hours). Including private guide, wooden boat with sunscreen, entrance fees at Prison Island tortoise sanctuary, refreshments- such as fresh coconuts, drinking water & seasonal fruits

Day 2: Stone Town

DAY 2

This morning after breakfast, you will be collected around 9h00am for your Cycle Spice tour

Spend a day cycling in Zanzibar, and it will be hard not to feel like you have discovered some kind of secret ! With the warm wind in your hair, groups of
excited children yelling “Jambo!” or “howah-yoouu” after you, and the exhilaration of making your own way, it is truly the best way to get to know
a place. This tour takes you through the outskirts of Stone Town into the Masingini Forest to the highest point of Zanzibar, where you will have a
spectacular view of the town and the ocean. Stop there at our preferred spice plantation for a unique Spice Tour with a locally cooked Zanzibar
lunch. Passing through the countryside on your bicycle will bring you in close contact with nature and village life, and you will see and experience
much more of your surroundings than from a car window. The tour requires a medium fitness level. There are ascents, but we believe there are
more challenging ones in European countries with real mountains. You would have to manage 30 km of cycling in total (15 km per way).

Starts usually at 9 am from Stone Town. Including mountain bike and helmet rental, private guide throughout the day, 1-litre drinking water per person a typical Swahili lunch in a private, rural ambience, non-alcoholic beverages, seasonal fruits, optional stopover at Kidichi Persian Baths (ruins), as well as 18% VAT.

The Safari Blue always starts from the fishing village of Fumba. During the day you will enjoy dolphin spotting in a marine protected area (dolphins will be seen 90% of the time), stop on a lovely sandbank to enjoy swimming or snorkelling. Well-trained guides will show you the best spots to observe different fish species and other sea creatures in the beautiful clear waters. There are two different reefs to explore, both locations offering a variety of pristine marine life. You will feast on a delicious Swahili seafood barbecue, which includes a selection of fish, slipper lobster, calamari and chicken. For dessert, you will enjoy gastronomic fruit tasting with a selection between 10 and 15 different tropical fruits. Afterwards, relax in the sun or take a short walk to an ancient fallen baobab tree that is fun to climb. You can also go sailing in a “ngalawa” (wooden outrigger canoe) and visit a beautiful lagoon surrounded by a mangrove forest. After a wonderful day, you will sail back to Fumba. Since 1996, the original Safari Blue provides guests from all over the globe with a truly memorable experience while making a positive difference to the island and its people. Safari Blue has, over the years been plagued by many copycat operators who try to pass themselves off as the original operator. However, we believe minimizing the ecological footprint of the crew and clients, improving the lives of Zanzibaris through a program of Social Corporate Responsibility makes an undoubted difference to a happy guest returning home from Zanzibar. Apart from that Safari Blue is taking the risks and responsibilities of COVID19 seriously, not only for the guests but also for the employed local staff! Please ask us to provide you with the detailed Safari Blue COVID19 measures.
