Day 2: Lima

Half Day Visit Barranco: Market, Culinary Experience with Penelope Alzamora, Pedro de Osma Museum, MATE Museum.

• Thanks to her foodie parents and a nanny who introduced her to traditional Peruvian gastronomy, Penelope became passionate about cooking. Alum of Johnson and Wales´ College of Culinary Arts and former teacher at San Francisco´s Tante Marie cooking school, Penelope lives now in Barranco, Lima´s quaint bohemian neighborhood.

We will visit a typical Peruvian market and as you sip some Pisco Sours and prepare your own ceviche and other Peruvian trademark dishes, Penelope will masterfully guide you through certain aspects of Peruvian history that can be best, and maybe even only, explained through the country´s world-class gastronomy.

Then, you will have the visit to the Bohemian neighborhood of Barranco, an area called home by countless artists, photographers, and authors. We will walk along peculiar streets lined with Republican houses, admire the splendid views, and visit the Puente de los Suspiros (Bridge of Sighs), witness to untold numbers of past and present romances, and source of inspiration for one of Peru's great composers, Chabuca Granda.

Afterwards, we will visit Pedro de Osma Museum, the delights of the visit lie as much in the collection of exquisite artefacts and intriguing artworks which adorn each of the galleries, as in the elegance and suave of the classically styled mansion the exhibits are held within. Nestled among the quirky streets and cultured, treelined plazas of Barranco, this all too under-visited attraction is home to a fine selection of South American artwork, silverware and colonial furniture, many of which date back to the early 16th century. Among the stunning array of internationally influenced, though often natively produced frescoes and carvings, we will find a noticeably regal atmosphere throughout the immaculate building, and among the manicured lawns, something akin to the period in time where many of these items were originally produced; making Pedro de Osma Museum a hidden gem in its own right, and a place well-worth visiting.

Finally, we will continue the visit to the Mario Testino Museum – MATE - one of the most influential and well-known fashion and portrait photographers of our time, in his permanent exhibition you could appreciate his emblematic

photographs.
