Day 1: Kigali

On arrival into Kigali Airport you will be met at immigration and assisted with your immigration and customs formalities. Outside the arrivals terminal you will be met by your driver guide and transferred to The Retreat by Heaven.

Day 2: Kigali

Today you will be collected from the hotel  and taken on a guided Kigali city tour with a visit of the Genocide Memorial.  

The tour duration is approximately 2.5 hours.

Enjoy a buffet lunch in town in a local restaurant (included). Drinks are for your own account.

You will then drive 25 minutes to Bugesera which is South of Kigali and visit the Nyamata Genocide Memorial Centre.

Return to the hotel in the late afternoon. 

Enjoy the evening  at leisure.

Day 3: Kigali

Today you will leave Kigali and drive to the rural areas where you will enjoy a day in the Life of an Artisan with Azizi Life Experience and become a member of the community for a day. 

This tour is a social enterprise offering visitors to Rwanda the unique opportunity to really connect and gain insight into the life of rural Rwandans and their families. Through a range of different cultural activities, you get to not only see something of the beauty and rigor of daily life, but also experience it. It’s a truly interactive way to learn about Rwandan culture!

Enjoy lunch during the Azizi Experience. Beverages are for your own account.

Return to the hotel in the late afternoon.

Day 4: Volcanoes National Park

After breakfast and check out, you will be transferred by road to Bisate Lodge, arriving in time for lunch.

Day 5: Volcanoes National Park

Enjoy today at leisure. A vehicle is at your disposal for the day. 

Guided Walks in Volcanoes National Park
A full-day guided hike to the summit of Mount Bisoke (3 711m) can be strenuous but is worth the effort, offering sweeping views of the rainforest and crater lake.

Nursery Visit and Tree Planting
Bisate’s agronomist, Jean-Moise, will show you around his tree nursery and help you plant a sapling as part of our reforestation project.

Hike to Dian Fossey’s Grave and Karisoke
A spectacular, challenging hike to Dian Fossey’s grave and the ruins of her Karisoke Research Centre, set in the saddle of Bisoke and Karisimbi volcanoes at an elevation of some 3 000 metres.

Golden Monkey Trekking
View this beautifully-coloured primate, which is endemic to the area and lives in groups of up to 30 individuals in the Park’s bamboo forest.

Meet the Community
Guided visit to the nearby community and members of the cooperative, including the farmers who cultivate and sell their vegetables to Bisate.

Day 6: Akagera National Park

After breakfast you will board the helicopters  (2 helicopters – 1 x 4 seater & 1 x 2 seater)  for your flight to the Akagera National Park where you will stay at Magashi.

Day 7: Akagera National Park

Enjoy the activities on offer at Magashi.

Boating
Boating in eight-seater swamp cruisers is offered; this is an excellent way to view the water birds and many other aquatic animals seen around Lake Rwanyakazinga.

Night Game Drives
Magashi is in the only private access area in Akagera so exclusive night game drives in open 4x4 vehicles are offered.

Birding
Akagera is renowned as one of the best birding areas in the world with more than 500 species recorded here.

Game Drives
Explore the area in an open 4x4 vehicle; each vehicle accommodates a maximum of seven guests, allowing each individual an outside seat.
