Kasanka National Park

Day notes

Days start early with a quick bite tio eat and fresh coffee, at around 4 am . Returning to camp mid-morning, we serve a hearty brunch, allowing you time to unwind before the afternoon's adventure. Tea at 15:30, and we set off again, exploring until around 19:00 ish. The day concludes with a hot shower back at camp and a sumptuous dinner under the stars.
Witnessing the great bat migration from the purpose-built viewing platform in Kasanka National Park is not only a spectacular event at dusk but also an equally magnificent display at dawn. As the first light of the day begins to break, the whole incredible show is repeated in reverse, offering a compelling reason to rise very early.

In the ethereal light of dawn, the sky, once again, becomes a stage for this natural phenomenon. The bats, after a night of foraging in the distant forests, return in their millions to their daytime roost. This reverse migration is a sight to behold, as the sky fills with the fluttering silhouettes of the straw-colored fruit bats against the soft morning light.

The cool, crisp air of the early morning in Kasanka enhances this sensory experience. The sound of countless wings beating together creates a gentle, rhythmic hum, a natural lullaby as the bats make their way back. The sight of the bats, now seemingly more coordinated and purposeful, against the backdrop of the awakening African bush is breathtaking.

This early morning spectacle is a testament to the wonders of nature's rhythms and cycles. Standing on the platform, wrapped in the quietude of dawn, you're not just an observer but a part of this incredible moment. It's an experience that resonates deeply, reminding us of the intricate and beautiful tapestries woven by nature.

In the realm of wildlife experiences, the bat migration at Kasanka is uniquely mesmerising, both at sunset and sunrise. It's a twice-daily display of nature's grandeur, and a compelling reason to adjust your sleep schedule. This is truly a must-see event, offering a perspective on wildlife that is both rare and deeply moving.

Nestled in a tranquil area of the park offers a front-row seat to the spectacular Bat migration. And is a prime locations for seeing photographing terestrial mamals, this is a haven for bird enthusiasts. Spot rare species like Pels Fishing Owl, Bohm’s Bee-Eater, and Ross’s Turaco and soo many more  – a true birder's paradise. After a morning amongst the awe inspiring migration there is still [lenty of time to vsist the edge of the Papyrus swamps to sit quietly in the dawn light and watch elusive and super shy (elsewheer) Sitatunga Antelope feeding in the open.
