After the rains, the green hills are covered with lush grass, which is favoured by free-roaming wild animals such as zebras, wildebeests and giraffes, as well as Maasai cattle. Although the temperature drops below 10 degrees in the rainy season, they prefer to settle in this environment. Afterwards, you will drive over the Ngorongoro Crater Rim towards Karatu. On the Ngorongoro Viewpoint you might take the chance to stop for another picture. As you descend into Karatu Farmland, the temperature will rise again.

Location: In the centre of Karatu is the Kudu Lodge with a well-tended green garden. You can stay here if you are planning game drives in the Ngorongoro Crater or Lake Manyara National Park.

From the crater rim, you have a great view into the crater bowl before you drive down the steep slope to the crater floor. Always have your camera to hand, because nowhere else is the density of animals higher than here. The crater, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is home to almost all species of East African wildlife. With a bit of luck, you might spot the endangered black rhino, which is one of the “Big Five” along with buffalo, lions, elephants and leopards! In the afternoon, continue to Tarangire National Park.
