What You Can Expect

You will start from your centrally located location and through Plaka we will head to the Pedestrian Road towards the Hill of the Muses, passing in front of the Acropolis Rock. Once on the Hill of the Muses, you will walk on the paths carved by the famous architect Dimitrios Pikionis; you will rest for a few minutes in front of the site that is known as “Socrates’ Prison” and then you will hike up the hill to the top, where, resting under the pine trees and accompanied by the loud song of the cicadas, you will enjoy the most spectacular panoramas of the Parthenon while listening to the stories that formed the city of Athens.

You will continue your way towards the hill of Pnyx – where the heart of Democracy beat in antiquity – and then reach the Hill of the Nymphs, passing in front of the National Observatory: the first research foundation of modern Greece and one of the oldest in Southern Europe. You will turn again on the Pedestrian Road as it descends towards Thisseio neighborhood, and you will take the busy Adrianou street, heading to Monastiraki Square. You will stop for a while in front of a few remains from the Roman and Ottoman Era, before entering the bustling alleys of the flea market and the Avyssinias Square, where myriads of antiques are luring the passersby to a journey through time.

You will finally continue to reach the neighborhood of Psirri, where you will explore a few examples of graffiti and street art: a controversial topic that, apparently, defines Athens today

The significance of Cape Sounion for the city-state of Athens

Cape Sounion, the southernmost tip of Attica, is a significant strategic point, whence the city-state of Athens controlled the sea passage to the Aegean Sea and Piraeus, the central port, as well as the Lavrion peninsula, comprising the rich silver mines thanks to which Athens emerged as a leading power in the 5th century BC.

The fortress and sanctuaries belonged to the deme of Sounion, formed through the state reorganization by Kleisthenes in 510 BC. The deme belonged to the tribe of Leontis and extended in the area between Lavrion, Megala Pefka, Kamariza (Agios Konstantinos) and the cape. The settlement in the fortress probably forms the center of the deme, of which more remains are also known. In the surroundings of the fortress, a settlement is located over the port and a cemetery of the classical period on the shore where the church of Saint Peter is, as well as part of a settlement of roman times west of the church.

Prehistoric habitation is also attested in the area. Graves of the Early Bronze Age period (3rd mil. BC) are reported on the cape.

Today, after having enjoyed the secrets of Santorini by land, it's time to enjoy this amazing island by sea! 

Choose from: 

1. VOLCANO HOT SPRINGS-THIRASSIA CRUISE 26 euros per person

The bus drives you to the port of Athinios, you will board the boat and start our trip with destination the Volcano, a distance of about 15 -20 minutes. Your stay there is for about 1 hour and 15 minutes. To walk up to the volcano to meet the active craters is about 20 minutes through a walkable path. After the visit of Nea Kameni, the boat continues to the island of Palaia Kameni where the Hot Springs are located.
The boat anchors a few meters outside the small bay of Agios Nikolaos, it lowers down a ladder in the water and from there you can swim a distance of about 30 meters to get to the famous mud baths of Palaia Kameni for which are believed to have beneficial abilities for the skin and other diseases. The water temperature is 30-35 degrees but it constantly mixes with seawater. The boat remains here for about 30 minutes for swimming. It's quite a time since there is no beach on the small island where you can stay for a while. Going on the tour, the boat sails to the island of Thirassia.
You have 2 hours of free time to swim in the crystal waters of Korfos or eating in traditional taverns with different dishes on the island. You can go on foot or by donkeys to the village of Manolas, which is very picturesque with narrow streets and a nice view of Santorini and worth a visit.
