ISAG 2023 Garden Route Tour

Day 1: Stellenbosch

Full day private guided tour of Cape Point and Boulders Beach.  Your day will start with a drive along the coast, past Clifton, Camps Bay and Llandadno to Hout Bay. From Hout Bay drive along the scenically spectacular Chapmans Peak Drive (if open) before arriving at Cape Point, a nature reserve within the Table Mountain National Park and a declared Natural World Heritage site.

The coastline stretches for almost 40 kilometres of Southern Africa’s most dramatic scenery, including the famous promontory of the Cape of Good Hope where we stop and, weather permitting, there is the option to stretch your legs and walk to the lighthouse.  Alternatively, you can take the Cape Point Funicular (own account).  At just under 8000 hectares the reserve abounds with around 250 species of birds, buck, baboons, mountain zebra, and spectacular scenery.

Lunch will be taken en-route for your own account.

Visit the Penguin Colony at Boulders before travelling to Stellenbosch via Simonstown.

Day 2: Hermanus

Breakfast is included and taken at the lodge. 

Full day exploring the winelands areas of Stellenbosch and Franschhoek with a minimum of two wine tastings included. You will learn how the grapes grown in the mountains differ from the grapes grown in the valley, the history of winemaking in the Cape and the architecture in the different areas your visit.  There will be time to walk the streets and take in the breathtaking views of the Cape Winelands.

Travel to the coastal village of Hermanus which is a favourite spot of the Southern Right Whale, which visit Walker Bay, Hermanus annually between June and November.

This afternoon take a walk along the coastal path for great scenic views and some of the worlds best land-based whale watching.

Day 3: Oudtshoorn

Depart Hermanus after breakfast and travel via Swellendam to  Oudtshoorn which is reputed to be the town most visited by tourists. It's famous for ostrich farming and the Cango Caves and is situated in the Klein Karoo, a semi-desert area. 

Dinner is included and taken in the guest house restaurant.

Day 4: Knysna

This morning enjoy a farm tour on a working ostrich farm followed by breakfast at the guest house.  

Visit the Cango Caves and then travel via the scenically spectacular Outeniqua Pas via George to Knysna. 

Dinner can be taken at one of the hotels at the Knysna Quay and will be for your own account.

Day 5: Stormsriver

Breakfast is included and taken at the hotel.  There is time to explore the quaint town of Knysna  before boarding the ferry for the Featherbed Eco Experience which takes you to the Western Head and includes lunch. In the afternoon travel to Plettenberg Bay - a walk on the pristine beach or at Robberg Peninsula for the energetic -  and en route to Tsitsikamma visit the Tenikwa Wildlife Rehabilitation Center, watch the bungee jumpers at the Bloukrans Bridge, take the scenically spectacular old forest road via Natures Valley .    Dinner is for your own expense and taken at the inn.  

There are many options for activities today and your guide will discuss timings, routings , your interests and your preferred pace of travel. All activities today would be for your own account.

Day 6: Oyster Bay

Breakfast is included at the lodge and then depending on timings yesterday there would be options to do additional activities in the area such as visiting the Big Tree before driving to Storms River Mouth in the Tsitsikamma National Park which offers the contrasting beauty of river, forest, sea and fynbos. At Storms River Mouth a  short walk along the rugged coastline or down to the suspension bridge is well worth the effort. 

In the afternoon drive to Oyster Bay and time to explore the environs of the lodge on a dune safari vehicle with a dedicated guide who will tell you all about the reserve and the natural surroundings. Birding, whale watching, sun-downers and night drives, are just some of the few highlights to experience on our Dune Safari.

Enjoy a South African bush braai in our rustic Boma.  With your private chef this is the perfect setting to have a night out or group gathering.  Enjoy a traditional 3-course dinner, which includes a starter, main and a lovely desert. At the end of your evening enjoy a relaxed stroll back to the lodge, with beautiful views of the Milky Way.

Day 7: End of Itinerary

Breakfast at the lodge, a leisurely start and then drive through to Port Elizabeth in time to make your onward connecting flight to back to Cape Town or Johannesburg.
