Day 2

Brazzaville

Day notes

Today you will experience a tour of Brazza la Verte; or Brazzaville as it is fondly called – the capital of the Republic of the Congo, set on the left bank of the Congo River. Your visits concentrate on the history of Brazzaville, from the founding days of the indigenous Kongo Kingdom, through to the colonial period right up to its present history. Whilst in Brazzaville, you’ll be able visit the Congo-Ocean Railway Terminal, which is historically the most costly colonial investment in Africa in terms of the numbers of lives lost during its construction. Over 17,000 forced labourers died building this railroad. There is also the opportunity to view the rapids of the famous Congo River and the Livingstone Falls, consisting of a series of rapids, dropping 270 metres over 350 kilometres. The Congo is the second largest river in the world in terms of water discharge, after the Amazon. In Brazzaville, you will be able to visit the markets of Poto Poto and Moungali, experiencing first hand a typical African market scene with the energetic bargaining culture, also stopping off to the School of Fine Arts to view some African artists at work. You will be having lunch at Mami Wata restauraunt, which offers one of the best dining experiences in Brazzaville, complete with WiFi, bar, river views and exotic food. Dinner will be at Restaurant Jardin des Saveurs. Your overnight arrangements will be at the Hotel Ledger Plaza.

Day 3

Republic of the Congo

Day notes

Today you will have your first long road journey, away from Brazzaville. After an early breakfast, you will depart, making your way through the low lying Southern Pool Region, heading up through the Plateau Region reaching your destination; the Cuvette Region and the town of Oyo.

The drive is long, with multiple stops, allowing you to take in the culture, meet the Teke (Bateke) people and view some of this marvellous landscape around the various towns and villages along the way. It is also possible to visit the Domaine Royal de Mbé, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, located approximately 200 kilometres North of Brazzaville; renowned for its cultural attractions, which include a series of holy forest and the residence of the Makoko (King) of the Teke people. You will also be paying a visit to Lac Bleu, situated some 140 kilometres from Brazzaville.

The terrain includes savannah, hills and the tributaries of the River Congo. Lunch on the journey will either be a picnic, or outdoor grill, depending on client preference and weather.

Upon arrival at Oyo in the late afternoon, you will experience the setting of the Tropical Sun in this small African town. Oyo is the birthplace of the current President of the Republic of the Congo, and as such he has spoilt the town with presidential largess.
