Today you will experience a tour of Brazza la Verte; or Brazzaville as it is fondly called – the capital of the Republic of the Congo, set on the left bank of the Congo River. Your visits concentrate on the history of Brazzaville, from the founding days of the indigenous Kongo Kingdom, through to the colonial period right up to its present history. Whilst in Brazzaville, you’ll be able visit the Congo-Ocean Railway Terminal, which is historically the most costly colonial investment in Africa in terms of the numbers of lives lost during its construction. Over 17,000 forced labourers died building this railroad. There is also the opportunity to view the rapids of the famous Congo River and the Livingstone Falls, consisting of a series of rapids, dropping 270 metres over 350 kilometres. The Congo is the second largest river in the world in terms of water discharge, after the Amazon. In Brazzaville, you will be able to visit the markets of Poto Poto and Moungali, experiencing first hand a typical African market scene with the energetic bargaining culture, also stopping off to the School of Fine Arts to view some African artists at work. You will be having lunch at Mami Wata restauraunt, which offers one of the best dining experiences in Brazzaville, complete with WiFi, bar, river views and exotic food. Dinner will be at Restaurant Jardin des Saveurs. Your overnight arrangements will be at the Hotel Ledger Plaza.
